So I’ve got a sounder of a close to 40 pigs on the property that I hunt. During deer season (Texas) I saw them quite frequently on my trail cameras and also coming into my feeder. They have always been tough to pattern as far as consistent times that they come in. In fact I have only seen one lone boar in person. Now they have not been coming in at all for the last month. I do believe it’s because of the heavy rainfall we have experienced and due to the fact that there are other adjacent properties with feeders. This property is surrounded by creeks on three sides and they have been full and running quite frequently. I notice I don’t see as many during times like these. I would like to get a couple for the freezer before it gets too hot outside. I do have an electronic caller with pig sounds that a hunting guide I know uses and he has great success. I have not had any so far. Should I start to bait for pigs pretty heavily and if I do what should I use? I realize this would attract more but to give you an idea on how fast this sounder grew let me explain. Last January I had 8 pigs total coming in. By mid summer I had double, by November I had double that and now I have around 40 or more. I heard you must take 80% of the population to make a small dent in them. My thinking is maybe if I can start taking them out they will go away. Wishful thinking I know. I’m not a pig hunter and I know didly squat about them. I thought about trapping them but my fear is that since the property isn’t very large they will get smart and avoid the trap altogether after I move it a few times. I welcome any advice you can give me to get these suckers gone. Thanks in advance.

Talk to your neighbors and make sure nobody is poisoning their feeders. Hate for you to harvest a tainted pig. Sorry I don't have anything else to offer on it.

Use sour corn and bait heavily to get them to come to you. Pattern??? No way to pattern a porker. Look on Lone Star Boars there is a lot of good info on there. You could also shoot me a message and I can grab a couple thermals and we can go hunting!!!:) if you are close to the property and can get a signal out there you can trap them and use your cell to watch and set the trap off?? If not trap while you are there and make it a big sturdy trap to trap as many as you can the first time. You can bait them and use solar powered motion lights that turn on when the pigs show up. After a couple times they get use to the light and stay there and you can whack em with the lights on!!! Good luck!! Show some pictures when you get them!! You won’t get rid of them because they move around a lot and they are everywhere!!!!:)

Are there any affordable traps that use a cell phone? All the ones I see are stupid expensive.

I will post pics once I get them!

sour corn got it! Should I let it sit in 5 gal buckets? Then go set it out? Or just put it out on the ground in a pile and let weather do it

Deer will get it until it goes bad, there are also attractants in small quart bottles that are cheap and you can put that on/in the dirt, tree stumps, on the corn,, packets of strawberry jello??? When I was talking about traps I was talking about you go to tractor supply or the HBO Home Depot (inside joke) and get the panels and t-posts and build one and get the switch for cheap and make a sliding drop door!! Or build one, buy one manual and trap when there??

I’ve heard that these Texas wild/feral hogs are filled with parasites. Kill them to get rid of them from destroying your land, but I’d double check to see if they are safe to eat.

Hogs are fine to eat,, just like the deer or anything else we have roaming wild. The little ones eat great. You can get a huge one and have a big ole roast!! Cure it in a cooler with vinegar, water, spices for a day and onto the pit it goes!!

Have a friend that he used his cell phone and a five gallon bucket for a speaker and we have had hogs feet from us in the dark and they could see us standing there before we opened up on them!! It was nuts!!! Now he has a speaker. Have had some hilarious moments for sure!!!

Update! Since I can’t hunt em everyday I’ve got a trap hunting for me. Hopefully I’ll get a few this week. Sure would be nice to fill the freezer with some pork.

Based on hog activity around my place, I am not optimistic that you can draw them to an area where they aren't with bait. Some years they root everything to hell around my place, other years there is absolutely no activity and no sign. Here, they seem to move over too wide a range for bait to be effective.

Feral hog trapping is profitable for trappers with a processor contact that exports to Europe. There was a guy locally I began to suspect was running a hog trapping racket. When you got hog activity, you could can call this trapper to eliminate the problem. He charges you like $100/month to "rent" you a trap on your land, then he collects the hogs and sells to the processor. I began to suspect that the "trapper" was coverting seeding the hogs, then making money on the trap rental and the sale of the hogs. :notsure:
