After thinking about it...I'll have to take a closer look at the actuator (I left it mounted, just disconnected where it broke off). The actuator I bought would rotate at the tip to orient in any position. I snapped a picture of a similar one online. Looking at my picture I wonder if that's the weakest part and where it broke off. There would definitely be less material right there to strengthen it. If that's the case. An actuator fixed in the correct position w/o the swivel end should be a stronger unit.

This is my concern with the folding covers I've been looking at (Undercover Armor flex, Bakflip). My tailgate has always been a little difficult to open and the handle seemed like it could break. Last year I replaced the stock handle with an aftermarket one with a camera. Now I trust it even less, the handle feels even less sturdy than the stock one did. I'm also going to get the auto lock kit and did worry about that breaking too. Because of all this I have been considering the Extang Encore, since it has access from the front of the bed too. Unfortunately it sits higher and doesn't fold upright, but it does seem to be very easy to remove. At least now I know if I go with one of the others, I can likely get in to the bed. I guess I'll have to keep a hanger in the truck too, lol.
