Well, yesterday didn't go the best. The new tune still seems to have the same issue as before with no noticeable change. My tires also slightly rub on the newly installed Camburg UCA's (passenger side) at full lock. To top it off, I went to open my tailgate and it won't open due to a failure with the aftermarket lock that was installed. I have the Bakflip MX4 installed also, so now need to figure out a way to unlatch the tonneau cover to gain access (coat hanger)? to the bed in order to remove the panel on the inside of the tailgate to manually pull the rod to open. Any ideas...:censored::facepalm:

AZ, just to update everyone/remind everyone.. this is a newer Magi install running HPTuners software that was installed as part of the kit, correct?

Where are you seeing the issue again? A specific rpm/mph/shift..?

Also, are you able to scan the truck while making these runs? or do you have a wideband that you can watch/video?

I feel like the only way to get to the bottom of this will be with a scanner/logger.

Correct, this is the new Magnuson with the HP Tuners (also new injectors for FFV while the older Magnuson/Bully Dog did not use new injectors on FFV).

Slight pinging happens when cruising on the freeway (high gear, low rpm) and you attempt to moderately accelerate, but not enough that it causes a downshift. This appears to be the only scenario that it happens or at least from what I can tell.

I have no ability to scan and no wideband installed.

Yeah, the key will turn and I can feel it's not fully engaging on the unlock stroke sort of like it's binding up a bit. I tried to push/pull on the tailgate and turn the key at the same time w/o any luck. Seems like the best bet is to somehow get underneath the MX4 tonneau cover to pull the cord and get that open. From there, I can get in the bed and remove the inside panel on the tailgate and manually open it. I've read online that some were able to pull the cord/open the tonneau by using a hangar, but I could not find any video.

OK. So what do you mean by pinging? You hear actual detonation/knock?
The downshift should not be effected by the pinging, thats only related to load and gear.

Does it ONLY happen in a specific gear/rpm? Maybe post a video?

Yes, you can hear a very slight rattle some of the time in that scenario just for a second then I let up on the gas and it will go away. Yes, it appears to ONLY happen in final gear and maybe 1800 rpms? I will try to get it on video this afternoon when I head into work. Maybe that will help identify it.

Just curious, did you have to do anything with the fuel pump relay? A boost sensing switch or anything?

Maybe its like Jeff Taylor's issue and the pump isnt going into high flow?

He pulled the relay but it was not allowing high flow....Was getting very lean AFRs at the top.... tested this by grounding the relay pin and then going full throttle again, and his AFR numbers were better after that test.
His solution was to reinstall the relay with a pressure switch.

Ill try and find you a picture of that if you think it could be your issue.

Also.. so you have the FFV (tan) injectors? Or the green SC ones?

A picture may help me to identify if a pressure switch was installed.

Here's the only picture I have of the new injectors at the moment. I'll need to check in person.

So did you have to do anything with the high flow fuel pump resistor?

That I do not know. The Magnuson was installed at a shop, so I can only image they followed the provided steps from Mag.

I had to run to the store a few moments ago and was able to record the sound. I'll see if I can upload here in a few mins.

Here's the video. After getting up to speed and maintaining I'll give it medium throttle and you can hear it in the video although there is still some background noise. Right before the end (maybe 0:25 seems to be the most noticeable).

Yep thats what I was referring to.

So I have minimal first hand knowledge of this but Ive researched for my own install. (taking from a non FFV truck to install on my new FFV)....
So here's what I have found (to the best of my knowledge at least).. so far:

    Different Magi FFV versions:
Previously Magnuson did things stightly different with FFV trucks. They used to use the tan FFV injectors, Bulleydog as their tune, and left the relay in place and used a pressure sensing switch that would ground out that relay at 4 psi, which caused it to send the FFV pump into high speed mode.

NOW they just pull the relay, they use the green SC injectors that came with the non FFV kit previously, and they have HPTuners for the tune.

    Ok.. whys that matter?

Because...another FFV member (Jeff Taylor) was experiencing issues at the top of his wide open runs.. a lean condition. He was running an FFV truck with DAP tune. The FFV pump relay had been removed as the current Magi instructions say.

What Jeff found was that when he reinstalled and grounded out the relay (first as a test, then reinstalled with the pressure switch).. it fixed his issue. He believed that his truck was NOT sending the FFV fuel pump into high speed mode by pulling the relay.

Now... I have NO IDEA why... BUT... If anyone with the relay pulled is experiencing top end issues, my first suggestion would be to ground it out and see if that fixes it.

So, I dont know if thats your issue or not. But I wanted to throw that info out there because someone else could easily experience the same problems.
I had no idea I may need that switch. Once I get everything installed I plan to do a few WOT runs and scan both with the switch as well as just having the relay pulled, and see what those number look like.
Unfortunately its still a ways out from install.

Thanks for all the info! I was able to get a picture of the pressure switch courtesy of @Vector W8 in another thread. I'm going to take a look, but I'm pretty sure I don't have one installed which also goes along with your above comments regarding the different FFV versions. Did you have a chance to listen to the video (post# 258)? Does that sound like pinging to you? This is my first supercharged vehicle and I'm not 100% sure, but that's what I'm gathering. I did find a local tuning shop (Dyno Comp) that says they can tune my truck for ~$1,400. Would you think that's where I need to head? I keep worrying that I'm going to damage something with the pinging if that's what it truly is. I know the scenario when it occurs, so I try to avoid it from happening, but I do drive about 50 miles per day. Aside from that slight noise everything seems to drive great in my opinion.

Here is the picture of the pressure switch in case others are interested what it looks like:

I see what you are saying but its really hard to identify exactly what the heck that is..

I DONT think its the issue I mentioned above.. You are at very low rpms (1800-2k maybe). So its unlikely fuel pump/pressure problems.

Does the truck run normal otherwise?

Did you show Magnusson this video? Very odd.

I dont think its pinging honestly.(although, disclaimer, Its hard to be certain) It almost sounds like a rattle or something.

If you give it moderate/heavy throttle all the way through to over 50 mph wihtout stopping, do you have this noise?
Or is it ONLY when you are in the early parts of final gear and give it harder throttle?

Yes, it only seems to happen at lower rpm's when giving moderate throttle. When doing WOT runs (only a couple pulls) everything seems great and I cannot hear that sound.

Other than that noise in the video everything seems to run fine, no check engine lights, etc. I've put on maybe 1,500 miles since the install and everything seems fine otherwise.

I took the truck back to the installer and he was able to hear the sound as well and stated it was detonation. Supposedly Magnuson was going to update my tune (correcting for tire size of 295/70/18) in hopes of resolving it. That new tune was installed on Tuesday and it didn't seem to do anything. I can try going back to them again or shell out the $1,400 for a dyno tune to resolve. I'd be okay shelling out the money if this is something that a custom tune can resolve. I just don't know where to go from here is the problem.

Moderate to heavy throttle all the way seems fine.

Yes, only seems to be in the early parts of final gear with harder throttle.

Have you taken it to get dyno tuned? If you're running HP tuners any tuning shop should be able to customize the truck. I thought you had the bullydog or something else, but if you have HP tuners the whole benefit of that is the truck can be tuned on the fly specific to itself versus a canned tune. I would dyno it, or even have a tuner ride with you and get it to have the same hiccup and they should be able to tell you right away what the issue is and probably fix it.

Yup, I'm running the newer HP Tuners on it. My local dyno shop quoted me $1,400 over the phone I think he said like $995 for the tune plus a couple hours of dyno time. I thought that seemed really high especially if I already have the module, but what do I know...if it relieves my stress and assures me that everything is good to go then it's worth it to me.

I'll try giving them another call.

That does sound high. A place in Las Vegas quoted me $750 for 2 hours of dyno tuning as a comparison.

I did find one other member on here that's local to me that has been tuned by that shop. He's supercharged as well, but not FFV. He's been really pleased with his tune and had good things to say about the shop. His tune was about the same price. I wondered since I already have the module if that would have lowered the price. I'm hoping it's something tune related that can be corrected.

A good tune is worth it's money, and good tunes are pricey. With that said, I don't see why there'd be any additional cost over time and renting/using a dyno. You already have the HP Tuner and all the shit to make it work, dude just needs to sit in it and fire up his laptop. The HP Tuner stuff by itself is like $400+ as I recall. So good chance that price is considerably lower and is assuming you just walk in with a stock truck and they have to buy and install everything.
