Hey guys. I am wondering if anyone is in a similar situation. I just installed the TRD dual exhaust. (Anyone who owns a tundra NEEDS THAT SYSTEM) it makes that 5.7l v8 come to life baby! So my question is I added a K and N drop in panel air filter and took the paper filter out. (Oem) pretty surprized that with the trd duals that k and n made it throaty. So why would or should i get the trd Cai? The bottom is same size and top is 2 or 3" bigger if that. Same filter is utilized ( oiled trd)? I cant see spending 450 dollars for trd letting on my cai. Any comments or response would be greatly appreciated. Would it give my truck more of a growl? Looking for a touch more low end rumble. Any suggestions? I am looking for a throaty idle, but not obnoxious. TRD duals growl around 1500 to 2000rpms. Would that trd air box give me more rumble at low or idle rpm? Should i just keep what i have?

Thanks man. I think the TRD panel filter is quite similar to the k and n. Thanks for the input

Only if you want to add some sex appeal under the hood. No performance gains.

I'd go with a dry aem filter (that's what I have) over an oiled k&n

If Toyota does another 40% off again and the CAI sells for $200, I would buy again. It’s a quality noise maker. I wouldn’t buy it at full price or close to full price.

Yeah K and N is only for race applications that don't see DD needs.
I have on on my camaro(also all I could find) but I don't drive it very often and only drive it on nicer days versus the tundra that is driven daily. I want the best air and oil filtration money can buy for it.

    Curse you Perry the Platypus!
Save your money unless TRD has another 40% off sale. Since the CAI uses the same bottom, I think it it kinda pointless. Just use a K&N or TRD air filter (I bet K&N makes it for them) and if you want to get all fancy pants, get the air accelerator. The factory intake is very well designed.

Thank you for the input on the k and n filter. I had no idea that it is only for racing application..no wonder i am driving like a grandma and getting 12mpg!? Still tryin to figure that out..I dont like to vere away from OEM parts. I know some after market parts are great, but they can interfere with sensors and computers ( luckly the tundra isnt with all the bells and whistles like ford which break and just jack cost of truck up) i figured ill go with the complete TRD setup. I got it for a reasonable price, not 200 dollars, but i did ok. Should arrive in a week or so, ill let yall know how i like it.

    Stock is CAI.

Do a drop in, call it good.

Most aftermarket intake show gains at redline, you drive around all day at redline?

I agree. When I saw the intake on the 18 I just bought, I thought it was a CAI. Just gonna do a drop in myself.

Oem tonneau, side steps, spray in liner. Trd skidplate.
The sounds that the TRD duals and CAI make around the 2500-3k range are amazing, worth the $$ to me. Especially when the vvt kicks in. Sweet v8 music to my ears.

I just ordered the AFE dry drop in filter. I’m wondering if there will be any difference from stock.

Volant has had something similar for a while.

I like the design, personally feel they may have actually been able to do a slightly different design to create a higher RAM effect.

    Nice design though

Quick google, a dyno sheet wasn't on their site. Or I might have missed it. Have you seen a dyno sheet?
