    My 88 year old mother in law kept her last carton of smokes when she quit in 1969, not much to say here but kinda interesting.

    That is neat! I didn't even remember cigarettes having a warning statement back then. It's great that she was able to quit too. And... $2.64 a carton? WOW.

    I thought the interesting thing was it does not say "Surgeon general".

    That’s really cool! I don’t know how many of you have ever smoked some really stale cigarettes. I bet none of those can compare to these. But I would definitely keep them.

    In the early 1970s I was doing time in the USAF. My compadre was a smoker and had a standing order for cigarettes which I could buy at the PX at a better price.
    I think the carton of cigarettes was $2.75 if they came from the base ~ there was likely less tax imposed on them than at a regular retailer.
    During the Vietnam war a soldier could buy a fifth of Seagram's Seven Crown for $1.80 ~ no taxes collected on booze when in country. Budweiser beer was $0.10 a can ~ $2.40 / 24 can case.

    I quit smoking 29 years ago and saved what was left in my last pack Marlboro Lights. About two years go by and the pack was missing from the kitchen corner cabinet. I asked my mom were they went and my mom who smokes Pall Mall unfiltered cigarettes and couldn't stand mine said she smoked them. Best thing i ever did was quit.

    he ran out and smoked mine.

    None. Stock from the dealership.
    In 1962 we left So.Cal. aboard ship heading west, after awhile the ships store opened up. A carton of cigarettes was $1.00, 10 cents a pack. When we got to Okinawa I did my drinking in the enlisted clubs, not in town, beer was fifteen cents a can, mixed drinks were ten cents a glass. I would take a dollar with me and get (toxon stinko 'in Japanese') very drunk 'in English' and have change left over. Guess you had to be there.

    My compadre started smoking when he was in his teens ~ he was hooked on cigarettes long before he turned 20 years old.
    The topic of quitting cigarettes came up in conversation and my compadre said;

    "Quitting smoking is really easy ~ I've done it 4 or 5 times already."

    He was as serious as a heart attack when he made this statement . . .

    When I was around 12 years old, I got one of the cigars left over that my dad was handing out when I was born. I smoked it with my best friend. It was so nasty that I ended up tossing it on the roof of the house next door. Luckily no house fire but I could see it on the roof for the next few years to remind not to smoke that sh!t again.
