New steering wheel

So I am embracing the TRD red accents. I saw some posts about leather wrapping the steering wheel, so I did a little digging and found a aftermarket replacement that has leather, red stitching, carbon fiber, finger grooves, and a red ring at 12 o'clock.

I'm going to try to get it installed this week.

And yes, I know to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery to avoid airbag "issues".
There's a pretty good video on youtube for swapping out the steering wheel by Brian from Victory 4x4.

 

Where did you purchase from? It looks good.

 

I bought on ebay. Brand name is Revesol. There was a mention of them on a Tacoma forum when I was doing some research.

You'll want to cover your trim in carbon now also!!

 

Nah, that would be too much carbon fiber and it probably won't match exactly anyways. I'd just buy or paint the trim black. That steering wheel looks good by the way

There is an all leather version, and a REAL carbon fiber version. Mine is hydro dipped.

 

How is the quality, is the leather wrapped tight?

 

Quality is great. Leather is nice tight. Don't have it installed yet, so my opinion may change after I get some mileage on it.

 

Interested to see how this turns out.

 

How does the plastic covering the back of the steering wheel come off, is it held on by screws? I know how to get the airbag and the silver pieces off.

Is that a vinyl wrap, how'd you do the carbon?

 

What's the extra two buttons on the bottom right of the wheel? I have a 15 and don't have them.

 

On my Tundra, one button sets the radar for adaptive cruise, and the other is for lane departure assist. Part of Toyota safety sense.

 

Yes vinyl wrap, bought it off of Amazon, spent a few hours learning how to wrap. Need to redo the right side as it has a couple of wrinkles I am not happy with

 

I was able to get it installed. Took about 40 minutes, and I was not in a hurry. I used a steering wheel puller I bought from auto zone for $25. If anyone decides to remove the steering wheel, just double check the torx driver size as the victory 4x4 video says it's a T25, but mine was a T30. Also as you can see in the second picture, my steering wheel did not come with a plastic bracket to hold wiring in place.

 

What's your thoughts about it, now that it's installed?

Thanks! The carbon fiber around the cup-holder is aftermarket, but I don't like it so I'm going to replace it.

 

Is it the tufskinz piece? I’ve flip-flopped on getting it, but not sure I’d be happy with it. Not crazy about the bolt look on the AJT stuff either.

Yes. It is the tufskinz. Funny though, I ordered the AJT stuff to replace tufskins.

 

Nice looking steering wheel. Quick question. Are they using a Toyota core, or is it a brand new aftermarket wheel made by them from ground up?

 

I don't think I can answer that. From what I could tell from the exposed parts of each steering wheel is that they look identical. I didn't look for part numbers to see if it is OEM.

Edit: I remembered I took pictures of the wheel before I installed, and was able to zoom in to see if it had OEM part numbers, and it does not.

Just saw this steering wheel on eBay. How’s the wheel and materials holding up?

 

The steering wheel is working out great. The stitching and leather is holding up. It feels better than the factory steering wheel and have had plenty of compliments on it.

 

‘The modified leather wheel in your post is exactly what I wanted for my 2012 Tundra. All the links in this thread are dead. So I can’t find the manufacturer’s Internet address. eBay is atrocious. I realize Revesol makes the wheels but I cannot find their website for a contact. Vivid racing also makes these but they start at $800. I don’t need or want carbon fiber, just thick leather and the modified wheel with thumb rests. Unable to get anywhere.

 

The ebay seller I bought mine from is a1_auto. It looks like there is several in stock, but a note says the seller is away until Feb 9th.
