First off, I am NOT a diver or a watch snob. I'm actually not allowed to scuba, because of a collapsed lung when I was in my 20s that I had surgery on. I do enjoy the water and do some snorkelling when I can. I'm not a suit wearer and my work is uniform dress, so these are for social and everyday out and out wear.

The Seiko SKX007 was always the watch I wanted but I couldn't justify it, so I started off with the lowest price "dive watch" with a true water rating I could find, a Casio. It was about $50cdn on Amazon and started my obsession.

FF a year or so, and I started eyeing the Citizen ProMaster Eco Drive in blue. It was hovering about the $225cdn mark and one day dropped to $135cdn...so I bought it. It is a gorgeous watch, super accurate time piece, charges with light and has amazing line markers.

FF a few months later and I had some fun money to play with. The Seiko SKX007 was still rising in price with it being discontinued by Seiko and them introducing the Seiko 5 dive watches. They were nice but not that I was looking for. Finally the 007 dropped to a reasonable price for me, around $350cdn, all in. Again, a beautiful time piece, automatic movement so will need to be worn regularly or shaken every few days, is a tank, smooth movement and again, amazing lume markers.

So, I ended up with all of them. A couple different movements, a couple different colors and different makes. I'll swap a few straps to change up the look every once in a while, likely Zulu and other rubber straps as I don't want a leather strap on them.

Anyways, I thought I'd share in case anyone else had any interest in them. Hopefully the 007 will be my most expensive watch as I have no desire to become a collector. If anything, I'll try to pick up some second hand or vintage ones if affordable.

Nice collection and also another Slippery Slope for sure if you let it be!

I went down that hole myself a little bit before I realized that my Apple Watch is just too useful to me to not wear pretty much all the time.

Before this I missed Texts and Email a lot which was usually OK anyway as I just don't usually give a crap if someone is trying to get me but isn't calling to use "mouth words" which seems pretty lame to me overall anyway.

But when I was shopping watches it was pretty easy to slip in the hole to say the least!

I was eying the Orange face, Made in Japan, version of the 007....but the prices went crazy on them.

I definitely like the look of many Seiko watches. They seem to be a good balance of price to quality in that price range for the every day person, wanting to splurge over a $50 watch.

@ezdog you're killing me here....first the Marathon and now the Orange Seiko. And to top it off, Orange and Blue, one of my favorite color combos for things like this.

When I started my hunt I found that Deep Blue seemed to offer a lot for the money too and I wear this one a lot if working where I might maime a watch and do not want to expose other ones to that.
This is a pretty inexpensive watch, under $100 used to me at least but has been great.

I have a Tag Aquaracer that's a divers watch, been running strong for right at 12 years now. One day I'll get me a Rolex Submariner.

Thanks! As much as I like the Omega, I find myself wearing the Breitling next to it more than anything.

This thread may make me try a Seiko.

Don’t have one in the collection yet, but as far as diver style watches go I picked up this on sale a few weeks ago.

It's a great watch and you can't beat the price when it goes on sale (regularly on Amazon).

I've gone to bed and had the lume still glowing 8hrs later.

Well, fortunate. Watches just happen to be one of my interests that get the attention of my disposable income. Watches, fireams, and musical instruments (mainly guitars). And of course... my Tundra.

I did a little test on my Promaster and 007. Clocked them for a week against my GPS set Pixel phone.

The Promaster is dead on, which was no surprise to me as I try and give it daily sunlight. It was 2 seconds off but I think that is just me not setting it at the 0 mark on my phone.

The 007 was the one I was interested in. I've seen some as low as +/- 2 sec a day and some as high as +/- 30-50. Mine averaged out to +146 seconds over 7 days or +21 sec, which I can live with. It's my understanding that may fluctuate over time, especially if it's not done daily, but will hopefully stay within Seiko specs.

Things I do when I can't leave the house ...count seconds on my watches. :annoyed:

    Some stuff
    those are classics. nice finds.

when i was a naui instructor, i had a guy who started class then casually said in conversation, right before heading out for the first open water dive, that he had had a collapsed lung. i'm almost lost it.

Mine collapsed playing soccer. I didn't know it at the time, just thought I pulled something. Went to the walk in a week later and the Dr gave me an inhaler, said it was seasonal asthma. It didn't get better so I went back and my regular Dr was there. He took and xrsy and showed me I had been walking around with 1 full lung and one the size of my fist. Needless to say, he let the other Dr have it.

My lungs are strong from cycling, or most wouldn't have made it that long before heading to the hospital, or so I was told . If my other lung had collapsed during the time the one was deflated, I would have been a goner.

The poped a tube in and filled it back up, that was fun :eek2:. Then a week later it went again. So I had immediate surgery and they stapled it up, glued it to my chest cavity in that side so it will never collapse again

Haven't had any problems with it since and my other lung is still going strong. Don't smoke, don't vape, don't scuba and still cycle a couple thousand KMS every summer. That was about 20y ago now.:fingerscrossed:

Yeah, the quartz watches will keep nearly perfect time. I say nearly because there are very finite differences compared to other method of super-accurate timekeeping. I have a Citizen AT which gets a signal from an atomic clock and sets/corrects/keeps time that way.

Even mechanical watches that are COSC certified chronometers won't keep time as well as a quartz movement, but that's not really the point of owning a mechanical marvel like an Omega, Breitling, Patek Phillipe, Rolex, etc.

I have a timegrapher that measures the accuracy of mechanical watches in different positions. The orientation of a mechanical watch is what mainly causes the variations in time even on a finely crafted watched. Something that can be countered with a tourbillion movement, which I find fascinating to watch in motion, especially the tri-axial.
