Hello to the forum.. longtime reader but just joined so I could post about a weird noise I hear from the engine compartment while I’m sitting in park and giving the engine the slightest of revs. Sorta like a high pressure whine or whistle that from the naked ear while the wife was revving it for me it sounded like it was coming the the power steering pump area. Truck has 360 miles on it so would this noise be considered normal. I’m aware of the higher than normal valve train noise these trucks make but this is different. It’s either like the power steering pump is building and releasing pressure as the revs come and go. I’ll attach a link to video so maybe y’all can have a listen and see if it’s normal to be heard. Thanks!

Hard to tell from your video but if it helps mine makes a slight whistle at low revs also. Pretty sure its normal though. I was assuming it was from the throttle body

Yeah I’ve heard about the notorious throttle body whistle dye to the mesh in the gasket but this sound with your head down near the engine it seems to come from the power steering pump area, like the pressure builds up when you open the throttle but soon as you let off the throttle it goes away. It doesn’t make this noise at all long as it’s sitting and idling, all you hear is the normal valve train noises that’s typical of the tundra engines. You can hear it best during the last half of the video kinda like it’s squealing inside the pump when I touch the pedal a little and rev it. It also is very intermittent as it doesn’t have this squeal all the time. It comes and goes as sometimes I can give it small revs and it not make the noise, then it will suddenly start as I feather the throttle. I just noticed it today while I was sitting in it and decided to enjoy the sound of the engine and exhaust in the driveway, and I noticed sometimes when I pressed the gas it would emit this weird squealing/ high pressure relieving sound and I started to get it to replicate it so I started video to see if I could capture the sound

    Welcome from NY.

Do you have the TRD cold air intake? Could be coming from there.

It’s all complete stock, it looks to have a pretty basic intake with the regular filter inside it so I would say no it’s not that TRD intake system I’ve seen installed in other tundras

not saying it couldn't be but it doesn't sound like its coming from the fender area, its more concentrated near the power steering pump/ alternator area of the engine far as I can hear it....here is another video to listen

Dude, if it concerns you, and it only has a few hundred miles, take it back to the dealership. Stop worrying about it and let them figure it out. That's what they are there for. But when you get it back, I would wipe down all surfaces that were touched by anyone, door handles, steering wheel, shift knob, hood latch (inside & out). They will fix it, or tell you it's normal. There's enough stress around us all right now, you don't need to be stressed about your new truck. Hell, my truck might be doing the same thing, but I have not noticed it. Hope they figure it out for you. Stay safe, remain vigilant.

yeah I’m certainly not gonna stress it I was just curious if anyone else experienced this sound. It’s not having any negative effect on the truck so I’m just gonna keep an eye on it and once things get back to normal I’ll stop by the dealer and see what they say

Using the red trd filter makes a strange high pitched noise. Might be that??

yeah I've been watching tons of videos on the tube trying to see if anyone else weird noise comes close to mine, it is likely possible my ears are sensitive to the noise and I can even hear it fully stock, as I've heard most people don't hear it until they add a new higher flow filter to the system

That’s the fuel pump. Very normal. Your Truck is running strong.

Went out for a drive yesterday, no radio, could hear only that beautiful throaty exhaust note, no whistle at all. Maybe it's just my OLD ears, but I don't hear anything other than the engine and exhaust note. No way I would cut away that wire grate at the throttle body intake. What if a leaf somehow got into your filter box? Or any foreign debris for that matter. It's there to prevent anything from being sucked into the engine. I realize it bothers some of you, but it's probably nothing to worry about.

Sound can travel. It could be the mesh screen thing in the intake and it sounds like it’s coming from a different part of the engine.

Or maybe your truck is giving you a hint that it needs a supercharger whine.

glad to hear it sounds normal...just wouldn't guess fuel pump since its located on the fuel tank right?

I doubt what you are hearing is the fuel pump, since it is located inside the fuel tank itself. Probably an intake sound instead. For now, just drive it like you stole it. Toyota will have your back if anything were to happen.

it’s the sound of the fuel pump to injector bud. Any tundra whistle when accelerating for the first 1/8 of pedal travel is that.

if you want to complain about a little noise, go get a ram and see what noises you hear on that lol,

Im certainly not complaining, this wasn't the intent on the post. im just a new tundra owner and wanted to identify what noises the truck makes that would be considered normal. truck is running great with no issues. whether its some sort of fuel system or throttle body whistle and based on the responses I have chalked it up to a normal sound and not worried about it

Just like a NASCAR driver. When the car is running really good, they hear ghosts in the machine.

For sure! Didn’t mean to come off as a dick. I bought a ram 2500 Cummins, traded in my tundra, and got my tundra back shortly after they bought the ram back. Long story short, stick with Toyota. FCA is a pretty looking product, but terrible quality.

Dad has a Ferrari California. Same thing— looks pretty and sounds great, but get in the driver’s seat and you notice the steering wheel emblem is glued on, and already falling off.

California is a beautiful car but I still prefer my favorite a 1999 355 spyder Ferrari in manual

oh no worries man I just wanted to clarify that. I do know very well about those FCA vehicles as I just traded in my Jeep SRT for this Tundra. Less than 20k miles it needed an entire brake job and with those Brembo brakes the parts alone was gonna cost over 3k, so I said hell no and got rid of the Jeep lol. I decided on a Toyota because of the quality and reliability. FCA sure knows how to shine a turd lol
