to upgrade a 6" lift or not.. that is the question

ok I know a lot of people are against drop bracket lifts, ( I am too id rather ground clearance over height) but for now I'm stuck with this 6" lift. But before I make any suspension changes I have to get new wheels. I just flat out hate them. Now my main question is if I upgrade it with extended length coil overs and uca's would the truck be able to handle some off road conditions/overland trips? How many people are actually wheeling there rigs with larger lifts on them and how do they perform?

 

Guy just posted new king shocks for sale on here. It will give you 3 inches you can run 35s with some trimming. Just an option for you.

I actually have been looking at icons! Had kings on my Tacoma, kinda want to see how the icons are.

 

I'm at pretty much 3" lift with my OME/Toytec setup. Can't imagine ever going to a higher lift since I can get pretty much everywhere I want to go up in the mountains here in CO. It's good to have plenty of clearance for what you expect to do with your Tundra. For what it's worth, I've never had a good ride off road in a 6" lifted truck unless it was in the flatlands.

 

I'm with Matt. Max out at 3" lift and run the largest tire you can for diff clearance. In my eyes a 6" lift is for a Saturday night parking lot show. Just my thoughts, but go with what your heart desires. Good luck with all and keep us posted.

Could not agree more on that. I've been hunting down stock parts. But not 100% on what I need to get by. Like do I just need factory knuckles and that would fine.

 

For what it's worth, if you plan on doing a lot of mud runnin, a 6" lift would be just fine. IMHO.

 

No not really. I want to take it on over landing trips and what not. @Spvrtan has a 7" lift and does some gnarly wheeling with it. Is a 6" lift really worth throwing money at it to make it decent off road rig. Sorry for asking all these questions but I want to do my suspension right the first time around.

 

i've read about this a while back when a friend bought a kit for his super-duty as i was curious of the same thing and it never ended well. most guys complained when they took it through modest terrain that the vehicle didn't flex well and that the drop bracket kits themselves weren't built rigid enough leaving them prone to twisting and bending.

 

That's another concern of mine too is the drop bracket getting beat up.

 

Seeking info on this fab tech 4" lift. Price is not bad. About 1600 bucks. Considering factory knuckles are about 500 a piece and I would still need some sort of lift to keep 35's.

 

I have a 6" rough country lift with spacers front n blocks rear stock UCAs it's a rough ride n stiff I feel every lil number hate it I'm running 35s turning radius decreases I really don't like it looks cool yeah but I'd rather go with a 3" lift maybe 4 no higher also I don't like my CV axle angels as well saving money to change over also need find stock parts if I go lower

 

I hear you on that brother. I don't like climbing in and out of it either. That's why I'm considering this Fab tech. It comes with some decent control arms and the knuckles I need. Later on could always change out to uni ball a arms and better shocks. Not to mention these new knuckles are way more beefy than stock!

 

3" is the plan if I can find some stock knuckles for a good price.
