I have done a lot of research and just about decided on the Retrax PRO MX for my bed cover. One of my local dealers stated that Retrax and Gator are same covers just made in different locations but same design......Looking for any info, pros, cons to either seal the deal or to change my mind.

Ok well update to my freaking dilemma. Went to accessory store today to look at the retrax and he introduced me to the Truck Covers USA retractable cover. I like a lot. Any one have experience with either of these?? Thanks

I had an American Roll cover on my last truck. That thing was nice and solid. Wasn't 100% waterproof but retractables never are. And it had an 8" canister, pretty much as small as it gets. Highly recommend.

    Yes let us know.

Only reason I like retrax is it is easier to use. Go to get something in or out of bed. Can do one handed.
Push button, lock pops up and pull open. Same close one hand.

The american roll cover: Two hands to open tail gate, then pull on latch under the cover, then hold strap while it opens.
Or carry another key. And the put key in lock, reach down and hold strap while it opens.
Also seems that long strap would get in the way. Can see loading a bunch of wood or other stuff and trying to find the strap which is or course under all your items.

Would like some feedback if this seems to be an issue. I have had a retrax for over 10 years and getting ready to maybe buy another one for a different truck. But like that the American roll cover is a little cheaper.

Sorry for the late reply. It's been a busy couple weeks.
I ended up getting the Truck Covers USA. The main reason for getting this cover was the fact I can get the integrated Yakima rail system for my bike racks and storage box.

I was really considering the Retrax MX Pro and I too like the fact it can be operated with one hand. The only thing that I don't like about the Retrax is the the fact you need to walk up and down the side of the truck to open and close the cover.

With the Truck Covers USA I can stay at the tailgate, open and close the cover. Last week I help my friend move and honestly the strap never got in the way. I play hockey and when my friends and I load up the bed the strap is never in the way. I have the strap with a carabiner and I attached it to the tie down point.

I would definitely buy this cover again!! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks a lot for all the info. Still might go with yours for another tundra I am getting today.
But with the retrax I can stand in one position and open it 60% of the way to put in shopping bags or my small tool box in and close it without even moving. One step for 100%. That is with the 8 ft bed. One handed so dont have to put shopping bags on the ground to open.
By the time you open the tailgate for the USA one, the retrax would be open most of the way to put stuff in. And of course about the same closing it as closing the tailgate.
Easier to open/close the retrax than even opening and closing just the tailgate. Since tailgate is still usually two hand to open and let down easy with a small step backward.

Hope you dont think I am nuts for over thinking this. Just my retrax I had for about 13 year. And this new cover will have for 15 to 20.
I would buy a new tundra if it was like the 1 st gen. Handles like driving a small car but still can carry a full sheet of plywood.
Dont expect to have to do it. But I will replace engines or transmissions in this newer one and never lose any sleep over it. Plan on new paint and restoring this one to look like new.

Have had a 2000 V6 2 wheel drive base model that I had added Ivan Stewart fender flare, power windows/mirrors, retrax, Linex, nerf bars and bed rails.
    Newer one is now a 2003 V8 4x4 SR5. Both are 8 ft beds.

I guess I know what I want. A rollback usa cover without a strap and with a retrax lock/latch. LOL

Again thanks for any feedback. This is the only thing on the truck I am having a hard time deciding on.
