WTF...2020 leaking oil? Could this be the infamous cam tower seal leak?

Found this on the floor after truck was sitting in my garage for 6 hours. WTF?

Guess I'll make an appointment at the dealer on Monday. 2020 with 4,000 miles.

Looks like way too much to be a cam tower leak. Did you look under the truck at all?

I didn't notice it until after I had parked truck across the street and walked back into the garage. It's dark and raining outside, so I'll see if I can look tomorrow. I already made a service appointment online for Monday morning.

I sure wasn't expecting to see that!

That was my thought too. Way too ouch fluid for what I’ve heard and seen about CT leaks.

Nope. Hasn’t been serviced yet. Only thing I’ve done is spend a shit ton of money on upgrades.

I will report back once the dealer diagnoses and fixes the issue.

That looks like you spilled a little quart... Or you missed your mud jug.

Either way I'd definitely have that checked out, that's not just a little spot.

Be interested to see where the dealer says that came from. Integrity check time.

Looking at your floor, it looks like it’s dripping near your tire patch...are you sure it’s not road spooge that looks like oil?

Agree on proximity to tire patch. Dip a finger and take a sniff. Brake fluid versus lubricating oil? Also, I note that you have 4WD...might be some leaking 4WD grease/oil.

I’ll get under the truck today and see what I can find. I’ll also check the fluids. That’s a lot for 6 hours.

As far as the tire patch in the photo,
I had to turn to get into the garage. It’s not a straight shot in.

No, there was definitely oil in it. I'm getting under the truck now to search. So far I don't see anything.

I have a Warn Zeon Platinum S winch...those don't have oil in them, do they?

If it's leaking, I sure can't find it. I spent 20 minutes under the truck and shining a light all over the engine compartment. Maybe it was road spooge, however it sure didn't look like it from the puddle on the ground. I'll have the dealer check everything tomorrow. It needs its first oil change anyway.

That housing on the end opposite the motor is chock full of planetary reduction gears. I think you can safely assume they are packed with grease that can liquify, and possibly leak. Look at the owner literature.

Unbelievable !!! That's not something he drove through. If it were it would be all over and not concentrated in one small puddle.
Tundras are good reliable trucks with good resale value. On the other hand, people here love trivializing someone else's gripes with these vehicles to the point of blind devotion. These trucks are good, but there are some crappy things that Toyota should have addressed years ago. Things that make the truck feel cheap and poorly built. Things such as the cam tower oil leaks. Things such as the cabin panels and rear seat rattles. Things such as that brake thump you get as soon as you start driving forward. Things such as that low speed suspension striking noise when turning left on uneven ground.
These are good trucks as stated above, but these tedious issues merited addressing a while ago.

I had a similar spot like that on mine when 3000 miles new. I got underneath and checked things out, and it appeared that the timing case seal was leaking. Took it to the dealer, and it turned that engine oil was spilled down the side of the block and settled into a cavity on the side of the block. Driving caused that small amount of oil to blow around and eventually drip to the floor. The dealer Tech was awesome in terms of tracking this back to when the factory filled the motor with oil.

The new 2020s are like Harley Davidsons...they don't leak oil, they just leave their mark.

I agree with everyone saying it's "road spooge". Zooming into the pic it looks fairly transparent. Sometimes I have spots like that under my flaps in the garage and it looks pretty dark/dirty like that. If you can't find it under your truck then I'd just chalk it up to the "spooge" theory.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the ideas, opinions and feedback. I will make sure I mention the timing case seal, 4WD system, etc. to the dealer tomorrow.

@Ob1 , very well said. I agree that these are great trucks, but they are not without their issues. I also have a hard time believing that it's something I drove through. But, as I stated above, I spent 20 minutes under the truck and could see nothing leaking. It's a mystery.

Could be a shock leaking too. My father's tundra has 38k on it and the passenger side shock is busted....

Got the truck back from the dealer, and they could find no leaks! He thinks that water getting onto my garage brought up some residual oil in the garage concrete floor. I guess that's possible, given the fact that I also couldn't see anything leaking, and all of the fluid levels were normal (I confirmed this myself yesterday).

Sorry for the fire drill. I will definitely keep an eye on it, however it appears that the truck isn't at fault.

    That don't look like residual.
What's the chances someone else parking in that location before you?

I agree with you. But the car I normally park there is a Tesla. No oil. We moved into this place when new, though I have had a couple of old Mercedes diesels and an old Cadillac that I periodically parked in the garage, and I know for a fact that those leaked oil. Those cars are all long gone.

There are a couple of other residual oil spots on the concrete. I'll have to test the theory and pour some water on one of the spots and see if any of that oil seeps to the surface.

If the mailman has been parking in my garage, then I'd better get my daughter a DNA test...
