I’ve been doing a lot of searching and can only find this issue for the 2nd gens.

I have brand new wheel bearings and Aisin manual hub conversion. Confirmed that both half shafts and front drive shaft spin freely.

Sound comes on at 45mph and the frequency of the wuwuwu gets faster with speed. Swapped in my full size spare and still have it. Any other ideas? Driving me crazy!
    Thanks.

What type of tires so you have in your truck? How new or worn are they? That's my first guess

What is up with the Aisin hub conversion?

Did the noise start after completion and new bearings? Does it change with side loading/turning in either direction?

Tires are 315/70/17 Falken AT3s. 3k on them. Noise did start after (regear to 4.88s, ARB F/R, and new bearings).

A lot of stuff to chase down as it’s all new at the same time. Done by a reputable shop, taking back next week for them to check. Wheel bearings were already checked last week and deemed “good”. Just wondering if I am missing something.

Noise does not change when turning or loading one side or the other.

And the DUB is no fun. Gotta crank my system to drown it out.

Seems that it’s coming from Front Right and that was the tire I swapped. I might try front left to eliminate tires completely.

That would be the easiest to eliminate (swapping tires completely with another set if you can) first off.

Usually the 'wu wu wu wu" helicopter sound is wheel bearings from what I've seen (or heard).

Everything installed correctly? Could be differential noise as well.

Confirmed it’s nothing rotational, something is vibrating or rubbing at that speed. Will continue to look and tinker will report back when I’ve sorted it out.

That's one of those references I make all the time and anybody who hasn't seen that video doesn't catch it. I showed one of my coworkers and it became a regular part of his vocab, like "this new code I wrote has got that WOOO WOOOOOOOO"

I had a wheel bearing go bad and it sounded very similar to that. Mine was on a 2wd, though.

From living with a back rear driver side bad wheel bearing for 4-5 years, I can tell you the sound starts at about 10 mph and increases the faster you go. The sound wobbles through the cab in intervals. The sound got real bad the last month before replacing it.

I did not listen to the video link above.

I had a front wheel bearing wear out in a Tacoma. I thought for sure my muffler had worn out because it sounded almost exactly like muffler drone. It was the worst at certain highway speeds. It was driving me nuts. I replaced it and it was a night and day difference.

Man you really got that woo-woooooo

That's a weird one, really sounds like a bearing but with the load shifting not changing anything, maybe its something else. Did the shop check it out yet? How were the bearings checked?

If not a bearing that leaves drive shaft/axle or diff. Hard to imagine the drive shaft if you didnt have noise before all that work was done.

Listened to the vid. Sounds like a wheel bearing. You were talking too much and your keys were rattling around with the blinker on so that part overwhelmed the background sound of what sounded like my bad wheel bearing.

I can talk less haha..testing various maps since I’m still leaning out and documenting which one is which. Truck needs a tune unfortunately so taking it easy on the throttle for now.

As a reminder I have manual hubs now and have verified both CVs and front driveshaft spin freely. Noise does not changing if I engage 4wd, open hubs and vice versa.

Noise started after new hubs, gears and spindle gussets. They told me I got new WB after gussets but who knows.

Shop states wb’s are fine, put on a lift and spin around. Maybe take it for another look as I think it’s getting louder (which also points to WBs). When they looked at it a few months ago they thought it was a harmonic vibration of sorts, I don’t think it is I can’t find anything loose or rubbing and I’ve been under the truck for hours (just out on solid motor mounts from Solid Off-road, huge difference, acceptable vibration increase at idle).

I’ve moved my front tires around with my full size spare, maybe I’ll take in for a rotate and balance to be 100% sure.

Appreciate the help, I want to post vids with only the supercharger whine, it’s a lot of fun!

I know you said new wheel hubs but that sounds just like what mine did when it went and it got very noticeable in sound at 40-50 mph. Maybe not broken but something is off??

Yeah that last few seconds of vid where there were no other distractions I could hear that familiar sound. Like the ‘Hunt for Red October’ and they are listening for Ivan underwater. Who whu wha wha wooo woo.

LOL great reference! Yea it's one of those sounds, once you hear it you can recognize it anywhere! I noticed it most going around turns, and when pulling into parking spots. Would hear a ping/clunk sort of when the wheel was turned all the way one way.
