If it isn't too late, you might want to consider +2 shackles as the +2 shackles actually only give you 1.25" of lift per CB website.

I don’t like the look of the +2’s. I’m trying to keep my level look as much as I can. And if I don’t have to do shims, I don’t want to do them. It’s a freakin small utility trailer for gods sake! I hate the fact I even have to do shackles!!! (Even though I’ve heard the CB are awesome regardless of my towing situation)

Shackles are great, but for me, I think the air bags are a better solution. And after speaking with another forum member who advised me of the DayStar Air Bag Cradles, the air bags will not limit my trucks suspension articulation. Best of both worlds.

Sorry Cow, I posted my reply before chiming in on your setup. Totally agree with you on your desired setup. I’m sure that badass boat weighs a tad more than my quad. Sounds like that will work great for your needs!

Still have not decided WHEN this will happen. The truck tows that boat just fine, with very minimal sag, so no big hurry. And yes sir that is a BadAss Boat. Bought it because we fish the Inshore Bay down at Apalachicola. We run in very shallow water, like 12 inches. This boat is a tunnel hull with flotation pods and hydraulic jack plate. It can hole-shot in 10 inches of water, and run in 6 inches. NEVER going to try that of course, but I'm done with getting stuck in the grass flats at low tide.

Wdh does remove some tongue weight by shifting it to the front axle and the trailer axles and while the weight shifted to your front axle still counts against your payload what is put only the trailer doesn't. The other thing that really helps is load everything you can into the trailer, clothes, food, drinks, bikes and other toys. That keeps the weight off the truck. And with proper loading can offset the weight of propane tanks and the batteries

I have a Grand Design 2800BH, specs are 6,200# dry and 600# hitch. Only have done a couple trips so far but it has gone well. One thing to keep in mind is that our trucks rating is based on SAE standards, includes 300# of passengers and #100 of hitch plus a full tank of gas. Realistically I know my hitch weight is over 800# once I’m on the road. I don’t put much in my truck and I put some of the gear in the back of the trailer. You could get a hitch scale from Amazon for about $130. This could allow you to balance your weight of stuff in the trailer to keep your hitch weight at 10%. Meeting the payload rating is a bigger obstacle than the overall weight. Not planning to travel with water since I am pushing the limits already. Obviously you will need a weight distribution hitch also.

How'd you figure your hitch weight being 800?

After checking out SO many products that assist with towing, such as air bags, shackles, etc... I think I have found what I prefer over them all. I'm sure it's Old News to some of you guys, but it's New to me. The RoadMaster Active Suspension system. Wow, it don't get much more simple than this. No you can't adjust your ride height, but all I want is for my truck not to SAG when towing, and to ride smooth when NOT towing. I like this product for it's KISS acronym (keep it simple, stupid).

I believe my listed 600# hitch weight is without the propane tanks and battery. Also including the weight for my bins in the front pass-thru storage. It’s an approximation but I’m tempted to buy a hitch scale to help balance out the trailer.

I use a hitch scale on mine. I like being able to check it when I change things up with the camper.

Picked this up on Saturday. 1992 and 32’. Got it for free since it needs some work. Soft floor in the back but no water signs and everything is dry. Had no safety chains, trailer brakes (weren’t working), wdh and only one taillight worked. Had someone behind us following and limped it home. Barely went over 35. With all things considered, the tundra handled this like a dream. I wasn’t winning any races but I was shocked how well the tundra held the road. First time towing with this truck. Camper is 5100lbs dry and 840# tongue weight.

Camper WILL have brakes, chains, lights, and WDH before we move it again.

Note: The camper has sat at the campground since 92. A tractor pulled (dragged) it out of it's home and to the spot where this picture is taken. We hooked it to the truck to hold while we jacked it up to swap some new rims/tires

For sure. I pulled a 21' 2300# dry camper with my Tacoma. I felt that in my bones. Driving straight down a road, I could barely tell the camper was behind. Really impressed.

You might want to look into the Roadmaster Active Suspension. That's what I have decided on for my PRO to tow my boat. Love the concept and simplicity.

Not on my truck yet. But here is how they fit your springs, pretty straight forward. They prevent the leaf springs from flattening out. Hold the rear end up, prevent sway. Best of all there's ZERO maintenance, not air bags, no lines, no compressor. Just adjust them to the ride height and tension you prefer and roll with it. I like KISS (keep it simple, stupid). Simplicity and function is the way to go.

I like the concept. I'm curious about clearance issues. Aren't the Tundra's leaf springs relatively flat similar to the Tacoma? 2nd Gen Tacomas are nearly flat without any weight.

With that said though, i was thinking with weight, springs will want to flatten some, this will prevent it. AND they have adjustment nuts to tighten up the leaf's if needed.

When you get yours on, do a review on them for us here and let us know what you think post-install!

Just skip to 6:55 and see how this F150 is jacked up in the rear. Unless you have the static load all the time (topper, tool boxes, ladder rack), this might not be the way to go.

For me, a properly sized and set up LDH is the way to go.

If you like simple, have a look at hellwig helper springs. Used them on my gen1 because I put a 1 snowmobile/sled deck in the bed (800lb or so). They worked great and no harsh ride unloaded.
