Was powdercoating your rims worth it? I'm thinking of doing the exact thing to the same time on my truck

For 3rd Gen do people avoid 17'' wheels? I didn't see any listed in the original post, wondering if this was a viable option to get that beefy sidewall look I see with method's and a few other similar wheel brands.

Tight clearances with the calipers. They will fit but have to be balanced a certain way with the weights to not cause clearance issues

Avoid them? Not necessarily. Many of us prefer them, but there are only a few options available that’ll fit over the Tundra’s large brake calipers.

Toyota offered their 17” Rockwarrior rims at one time, but I don’t think they sell them anymore. You can still find them for sale used, though. Method Wheels and Icon offer 17” aftermarket wheels. I have the Icon Rebounds and love them. Running 285/75/17s (33.8”) on them with 2” front lift.

Didn't know where to post but since this was about tires thought it would be a good place.

    Hello everyone,
Just bought my 206 Tundra SR5 TRD Off Road. Will post picks later as I just picked it up yesterday. I just wanted to hear opinions regarding this tire from Discount Tire.
PATHFINDER AT LT275 /65 R18 123S E1 BSW. I had this brand before on my Tacoma which I really liked, however I never used it to tow.

I will be towing 2019 Aspect Trail 1900RB @ 4100 lbs dry. Fully loaded for my wife and I, likely not over 5600 lbs. Very little actual off roading, and for the time being will be my commuter vehicle on the highway, no need to remind me about the poor gas mileage lol.

    Thanks ya'll.

It is a decent value priced AT tire. Note- moving to and E load will stiffen the ride and bit and E load tires are heavier, so there may be a tiny MPG hit. No issue towing that with either P or E load tire designed for our trucks. Overall they are a decent tire. I have not tried E load but had the P on a 4runner once. They met my needs, were decent in snow and weather. They did seem to get harder when the tread wore down a good bit and had reduced wet traction compared to when they were newer.

I'm new to the site and thought this would be a good place to ask my question since I've searched high and low for anyone running the same setup:
I've got a 2014 Tundra Crewmax Platinum and loving it, except the stock tires & rims. I'm looking to level the front with Bilstein 5100's at the middle setting (+1.57") and get the Toyo Open Country MT 285/60/20. The thread says these will fit but I've also heard these are wider than normal & also depends on the wheel. The specs on these tires are 12" width & 33" diam. I'm looking to pair these with XD wheels 20x9 (35mm offset) or 20x10 (-12mm offset). I'm looking to avoid doing any work to the UCA, diff drops, cmc or bumper spacers. I've already removed the front mud flaps since I didn't really like the look anyway. Can anyone tell me if this set up will work without rubbing & which of those wheels to choose? I would appreciate it since I'm fairly new to all of this, but I've been scouring this site for a few months deciding what will look best. Thanks in advance.

So if I'm reading right the chart right my 2018 Tundra TRD Sport with a front leveling kit installed

Currently sporting 2019 Sequoia 20" Wheels & Cooper 275/55/R20 tires

That being said I like the rims and with the TRD Sport Package
I drive 80 miles a day freeway for work and don't want the road noise

Not sure if I can squeeze LT285/60R20 without issues

Cheezers at Les Schwab already scared two rims doing a flat repair

Reading the chart at the being of the thread this would be a better fit
Just don't want the road noise driving 40 miles at 5 am in the morning
    20″ rims: 285/60 R20 – 4/10ths wider and 1.5 inches taller than factory
    • 20″ rims: 275/60 R20 – one inch taller but same width as factory
    1.5 – 2″ Leveling Kit (or less)
When installing a leveling kit, you might be able to fit some wider tires than what we have listed. It may require some trimming though, but it is possible.
    Max tire sizes are:
    • 20″ rims: 285/60 R20 – 4/10ths wider and 1.5 inches taller than factory.

Anyone running RG's 285/70/18 on stock SR5 TRD Offroad rims with absolutely zero mods? Looking for definite confirmation if any rubbing is present or trimming/parts removal is necessary. Thanks.

Even if there is somebody doing that, which I would say is unlikely, that doesn't mean that you could do it and not have to modify anything. Fun thing with Tundras (and all trucks) no 2 are exactly the same. Some guys put one set of wheels and tires on with little to no fitment issues, and others use the same set up but have to chop the liners to bits to make it work.

I'm looking at a set of 17" ICON with the 285/75. Couple questions. I saw you have 2" lift in the front, are you running any lift in the rear? What tires are you running? I'm looking at the KO2 which the specs say is 33.9" but I'm seeing posts across other forums of folks saying the actual size is close to 33".

I had 295/70/18 on my previous 2010 DC and liked that size but it was really stuffed. Don't mind dropping down a little especially to get the wheels I want but don't want to drop down to a 33".

Bonus round question: Any pics? I'd like to see how that tire fills out the wheel well. Thanks in advance.

No rear lift yet. Just have 5160 Bilstein rear shocks.

I’m running 285/75/17 Cooper XLT AT3s. They fit great. Online specs have them at 33.8” tall. I think all tires, once mounted and on the vehicle, end up being a bit less than the stated diameter.

I think this size tire is a great compromise for the Tundra. Not too tall, not too wide, not too heavy and needing only minimal front lift.

    Here are few pics:

Do you have any rubbing off-road? full stuff. full right/left. full reverse right/left? What is your wheel size?

I’ve only been off-road a few times, nothing too crazy. Even so, I’ve had no rubbing whatsoever anywhere front or back, full lock or in reverse. But I had also removed the front bumper plastic liners before I installed the tires. I haven’t reinstalled them yet, so I don’t know if they’d rub.

My wheels are 17x8.5 Icon Rebounds with a +25 offset. Great wheels. If I had to do it all over again, I’d still get the same wheels but in bronze instead of titanium.

Ok, so Im going crazy trying to figure out the largest wheel/tire combo I can go on stock TRD bilstein suspension on a 2020 Crewmax TRD SR5 Sport. Im looking at going Method MR312 17x8.5 4.75 backspacing 0 offset with 285/70/17.

According to sticky post for 3rd gen on stock suspension, I can fit a 285/65/18 with maybe some trimming. What does "Trimming may be neccesary" entail? I dont care if I have to take off both front mud flaps or do some heat gunning on the wheel liner. But I really dont want to have to cut the wheel liner, have rubbing on the UCA or have to put spacers on the front bumper.

Using the tire size calculator to get a similar sized 17" tire, the closest I can get to 285/65/18 is 285/70/17. The tires I am looking at are Milestar Patagonia M/T's in 285/70/17. Milestars website shows their 285/70/17 tire width = 11.7" and height = 32.9" on a measured Rim Width = 8.5.

My question is, will that .5" width and .3" height increase push me into significant trimming territory?

Stock 2016 TRD Pro with 295/70R18 Nitto Trail Grapps. We had to remove the front mud flap(2 bolts). No rubbing...but they are close to the UCA. Love the look, ride is awesome, and road noise is nothing like I was expecting.

Anyone know if the stock 2016 Platinum suspension is any different (Height / Clearance wise) than the TRD's with Bilsteins? Or would they sit the same, and accommodate the same size tires?

I believe the TRD PRO has a 2" Leveling kit. So it is 2" taller in the front but the same in the rear.

It has longer coilovers which give the effect of a 2” level, but not an actual leveling kit with spacer.

Alright, I need someone who is smarter than me to tell me if I somehow figured this out or if I'm still off in my thinking (not nearly mechanically inclined as I'd like to think I am).

So picked up a new to me 2015 Tundra Platinum a few weeks back. Dealer had gotten the truck on trade with snow tires on it. They were going to put some $hitty all seasons on it and give me a great deal on them (like $600, and no they weren't willing to go to an A/T tire). I said, how about no and you give me $500 off and just let me go on my merry way with these snow tires and i'll figure it out.

Finally just getting around to ordering tires. I have the stock 20" wheels on the truck. Going to go with Falken Wildpeak AT3s that I had on my 4Runner. Decided, hey - maybe i'll go up to 275/60R20 from the Stock 275/55R20 size since it will fit. Hop under the truck to check the spare, I was assuming it hadn't been changed since the truck was new and I was correct in that assumption. Kicker, realized the spare is in a 255/70R18 wheel.

So I did some googling and I'm thinking the best match on the spare to get me equal diameter wheels is going to be a 255/75R18 (33.1" diameter) tire to fit on the stupid spare tire to match the diameter of the 275/60R20s (33" diameter) I'm putting on the 20" shoes.

1 - Do I even need to worry about replacing the spare after 5 years of it sitting under there? (Live in snowy minnesota so that tire has seen some snow and salt)
2 - If I should consider getting a new spare, is my sizing logic working here?

Help me Tundras.com....you're my only hope

You might have already figured this out, but I just came across it now, 9 days after you posted it. First, I think the Falken Wildpeak AT3 would be a great tire - I'm seriously considering getting it myself. Second, if you want a taller sidewall and it's in your budget, maybe consider getting 18" wheels and then you can go to a more meaty and taller sidewall. I used to have a 2011 Tundra Limited with 20" tires and because I stayed with the stock 20" wheels, had to get low profile All-Terrain tires (got BFG AT KO2s that time). In retrospect, I wish I had purchased smaller diameter wheels so I could tires with a taller sidewall.

Lastly, as for the spare, since it's under the truck and not exposed to sunlight and UV rays (biggest enemy from what I hear) that spare tire might be in better shape that you think. They say we should think about replacing tires when they are between 6-10 years old, but since it's a spare tire, which you may never use, or if you do, just temporarily, I think you could probably get away with leaving it there a few more years. If you're concerned about the size difference, just think about the donut spare cars have and how much smaller of a tire it is compared to the tires on the car. Granted, cars are not as big or heavy as trucks, so that might be a factor. But, since the difference is fairly small, 1" total, or about half an inch once mounted, and you'd only be using temporarily (and cautiously), I think you could get away with it. But, I'd ask a reputable tire shop, although they might want to sell you a tire. You could always check Craigslist for a single used or nearly new, or new take-off tire, or maybe a tire shop has some deals on those, and you could use that for your spare. I'm going to use one of my current LT275/65R18 tires as a spare to replace the aging 11 year old P rated spare. I might even go to a 275/70R18 so I'll have roughly the same height difference on my spare tire tire too.
