I’m nearly certain that Toyota didn’t start immobilizers in Tundras until 07. These keys are recognizable because they are fatter and have a “G” stamped on the blade. I’ve done hundreds of remote starts and don’t ever recall one in the first gens.

mine does not have immobilizer. it does have a maint light.
it comes on every 5000 miles. at 4500 miles it'll flash for a minute reset is hold the ODO with it on mileage and turn key to on, hold till it flashes all 0s

I had one cut at the dealer I want to say $7. It was definitely under $10.

I don't know what the official spec is, but I just did a power-off flush (not running the engine, just wheels in the air, turning the steering wheel lock to lock about 10 times) and I didn't use a full gallon.

I'm about to help a coworker with a parking lot repair on his GX470. His serpentine belt broke because the tensioner pulley seized up. Does anyone know if the belt routing is the exact same as our trucks? The diagram he found looks wrong.

So the replacement pulley Lexus sold him is substantially smaller than the one that was on it. It's both thicker and wider. We're not sure what to make of that..

Was the pulley on their original? I would call the dealer back and cross check his VIN with that pulley part #.

He's not sure. He's the 3rd owner. We're going to swing back by the Lexus dealership and ask them. I also happen to have a replacement tensioner pulley that I brought from home and it's the same size as the one that came off the truck, bigger than the one they sold us. There was only 1 engine offered in the GX so I'm curious how they could have ordered the wrong part.

Being a tensioner pulley size shouldn't matter too much as long as it has enough throw. Also possible it's a part revision and they decided the same tensioner pulley would work on a few different engines.

I also flushed the PS system last weekend using that method. I was able to see easily when the fluid color changed from brown to red (because my original fluid was nasty) after about 4 full left lock --> right lock turns of the wheel and slightly under 1 quart of fluid.

Sounds like he is saying the part the belt rides on is also not wide enough. That would matter.

That was our initial thought but after looking at it closer it's actually the same. It's just smaller in diameter so maybe they did just update the part along the way.

Agreed. I’d definitely double check with the dealer though.

    Good afternoon, team!
    I have a new-guy question.
When I have to brake hard (traffic), more often than not, there is a pronounced 'thump' from under the truck as I release the brake. I just replaced the carrier bearing on the DS and the U-joints appeared to be fine. The truck tracks and brakes straight. There are no errant suspension/chassis noises ever. It's [relatively] smooth over bumps. But something is definitely moving when I brake hard and then release the brakes.
    Any ideas whiskeytangofoxtrot that is?

Not sure, but check your transmission mount bolts. There should be 4 in place and they should be tight. 06 models are prone on the 2wd models to lose these bolts. I realize yours is 4x4.

Grease the absolute pudding out of the rear slip joint, it’s right in front of the last u joint at the rear diff. Then loosen the zerk to relieve pressure, then put some more grease in there, and then some more grease

No luck with the GX. My buddy is one of those guys that doesn't really do any maintenance. This poor thing had multiple oil leaks, power steering leak, PCV was backed up. He just drives are car until it dies then buys another used Toyota.

We were hoping to just replace the pulley but the replacement wouldn't work with the existing tensioner. You can tell they changed the design. We were not equipped to do the tensioner replacement in the parking lot.

I'll check all of that and report back.
I've heard of the slip-joint thing also with the 3rd gen T4Rs. I didn't think to check that.

He's saying it only happens when he brakes though. When I was having trouble with my slip yoke it was as I was rolling to a stop but it didn't make any noise.

Yeah, while I had the tensioner off, I noticed play in my idler, had to order that and do the serp re route all over again

Mine seems to only pop and creak on hard breaking, it’s part of axel wrap I believe

Oh if it were my car I would but he was just trying to get it running so he could avoid a tow bill. The pulley is a lot easier to replace than that tensioner, especially in a work place parking lot.

It's when I release the brakes. The truck acts normal during braking.

Axle wrap was my thought as well.
I'm not keen to spend a ton of money on springs, so I'm going to start with the slip-joint and trans mounts and go from there.
Would an AAL mitigate axle wrap?
