Reading ABS, VSC codes without a scan tool (2nd Gen and more?)

I recently purchased an 07 Tundra SR5. I was driving over a mountain pass a couple weekends ago and received the Christmas light effect on the dashboard as many others have (VSC light Flashing, Skid light On, 4HI/4LO flashing, ABS Light on). While driving, I plugged in my WIFI code scanner and had my wife connect it to the phone and there were no Check Engine Codes (CEL) codes. So, I pulled over and restarted the truck and no more lights (yay, I still had to get back home over the mountains). Fast forward and I went out to my truck this evening to try and pull any stored ABS code(s) with the Toyota Special Service Tool (SST)... in other words, a piece of wire I had for my 2003 4runner.

I decided to do a quick write up on this topic after finding scattered information on how to read ABS codes for a 2nd Gen. Tundra. Perhaps I missed something, maybe not. I have owned a 4runner for the last 6 years so I am already familiar with their fetish for flashing lights on the dashboard when anything goes wrong, no matter how slight (whenever any CEL code occurs on my 4runner the ABS and VSC lights come on too).

So, I went out with my "SST" and jumped pin 4 and 13 and then turned the truck to "ON" and bunch of lights start flashing. I read the VSC code and it is 43 (blink,blink,blink,blink,pause,blink,blink,blink) . I read the ABS code and it is 37 (too many blinks to type). VSC code 43 is an ABS malfunction (VSC needs ABS to work so this is automatic whenever there is an ABS malfunction). ABS Code 37 is "Different Diameter Tire Malfunction". I guess since the truck is new to me I need to see what the deal is there, I thought they were all the same tires. Something to look at in the day light tomorrow... Anyhow. hope this helps someone.

So here's the OBD2 Port numbers to jump with a piece of wire or paperclip (use 13, not 12 to pull codes). Oh, and the required disclaimer: do this at your own risk.

I've had something similar happen twice for seemingly no reason. A simple Zero Point Calibration sorted it for my particular occurance.
