So I went to start my 08 5.7 and it ran for 3-5 seconds and then shut off, tried to start it again and it did the same thing. Waited about a minute and tried again and it started fine???

    What could be causing this?

The guy I bought it from said he went and got a spare key made last week but this was the original key I tried to start it with

I wonder if there could be an intermittent communication failure between the truck and the key.

A little of this and a little of that.
@LOTSOFTOYS I have a '16 CM 5.7L, would I void my warranty if I installed an aftermarket CAI?

No it wont void the warranty unless its letting air passed the filter. But dont waste your money. The power gains are not there infact after the placebo effect wears off you will have a loss in power likely. Your airbox already is a cold air intake. If your wanting more power spend the money on a TRD or dirty deeds exhuast. Those seem to be the only two with proven gains over other options.

Does a squeaky serpentine belt mean it's bad? time to replace? noticed for a month or two. Truck has 32K, 2 years old.

I installed the hypertech inline speedometer calibrator and every once in a while I get this same reading and I've never towed anything before ever. If I touch the hypertech calibrator behind the gauge cluster it goes away. I think I have a defective calibrator but obviously AutoAnything won't send me a new one bcuz they're return policy is crap.

It could be that. It could be your pulley or idler. 32k is low miles for your pulleys to be going. Have it checked. If you get new serpentine belt, look into the Goodyear Gator Back. Great reviews. I put one on and no complaints whatsoever. Hope this helps

Thanks Ron, I'll look into that make. A mechanic friend of mine said there was some part that may just need to be adjusted, but to throw a new belt on was easy just to be safe. This AZ heat and dryer climate doesn't help rubber components either.

I just ordered a new one today. Should be here tomorrow so hopefully it will stop my issue that I keep getting with my controller. (every light on dash on, brake controller error, speedometer not working, rpm not working, etc...) -- hopefully autoanything.com accepts my return since this is costing a fortune just to get an accurate speedometer reading :censored:

Hey 16plat I had the same issue with numerous units and found the fix. Not sure how to copy and paste the article, but punch in " hypertech bricks " on this forum search bar and you will get the articles and my fix. Yell if you have any questions. Good luck........

I installed my new one a few days ago and so far so good. My problem was just like what that hypertech bricks post was saying, I could wiggle my wires and it'd act up and shut off and light everything up etc. but it also happened when I went over any type of bump, etc. so I pulled it out and cut that zip tie. Same problem over and over. I really think it was a defective unit bcuz when I wiggled the black box on the calibrator, everything would act up. So hope my problem was solved with the new one. Thanks for the reply

    LotsofToys,

As you may know, 4WD Tundras beginning in model year 2014 began requiring a special 75W oil only available from Toyota in the Transfer Case. In your experience, when you service transfer cases for normal maintenance or whatever - do you replace it with the genuine Toyota 75W fluid, or do you use something else? If you use something else, what do you use?

    LotsofToys,

First, thanks for all your help, expertise, and insight here. You are a good man for taking the time to do this!

I have a 16 CM TRD with about 13,500 and I have a question about the trans. Bought it brand new last year and ever since the beginning when I slow down to about 5mph and then get back in the throttle, it's like the trans isn't sure if it should be in 1st or 2nd gear. It revs a little and kicks slightly and finally picks 2nd. Is this a slipping issue? It doesn't happen every time but I drive in a lot of stop and go traffic so it happens enough to be very annoying.

I can even cost for a little bit (10-15 seconds) at 5mph and it will do it. I've asked the dealership about this at my 5k and 10k service and they said it's normal because it's an electronic transmission? Are they jerking me around on this?

Another issue I noticed recently is if I'm on a hill starting from a standstill, the shift from 1st to 2nd seems to take longer than it should. Is this related?

I installed a Hypertech Inceptor and it seemed to get better for a few weeks but now I feel like it's happing more often again (maybe a bad Hypertech unit or it needs to be updated).

Going to try to get the service manager to ride with me at the 15k service to show him. Everything is stock for engine, tires, suspension and transmission. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

    Thanks everyone

I feel like this is the same behavior I've experienced in every 5-speed (or greater) automatic transmission I've had the opportunity to drive. It feels like it's programmed to anticipate a far more aggressive back on the throttle transition after slowing or rounding a corner. Say I come into a clearing roundabout or fresh green light and don't need to come to a complete stop. The trans seems to think that I'm going to hit the throttle aggressively and pre-selects a lower gear than what it turns out is needed in retrospect. The best comparison that comes to mind is if you've ever been a passenger in a vehicle with a manual transmission where the driver selects first gear for a rolling stop when second would be much smoother. When the driver "dumps" the clutch but doesn't rev-match, the vehicle abruptly slows further then jerks forward when the engine RPMs catch up. I've also notice that this is slightly more pronounced when the truck is cold. I suspect that the ECUs are programmed to hold a lower gear slightly longer to keep the revs up and warm things up faster to get to closed loop earlier for emissions. Kind of like driving around on high idle or with the choke pulled slightly. When all this business happens, it does have the sensation of a slipping clutch.

Thanks Wynnded. I follow what you are saying and sounds like you know exactly what I'm referring to. I've just never experienced anything like that until this truck. Wife's 07 Camry doesn't do it and neither did my 99 4Runner or 13 Expedition(POS). Thanks for the explanation!

I would say it's normal, I know exactly what your talking about and can see how that could be annoying. Unfortunately it is an electronically controlled transmission. The ecu only has so much logic under certain conditions. I haven't noticed it in anything that doesn't have the 3ur. Sequoias cruisers and tundras seem to all do it. I personally can't stand the throttle response in these newer trucks. I'm sure u get used to it when u own one, but I drive them every day and still act like a damn bobble head... the snappy Ness of the throttle has the potential to confuse the shit out of the logic that controls transmission gear selection.

Thank you for the response. The throttle is very touchy. I installed the Inceptor on the pedal too to help mellow it out but it was too much. Felt like I had to floor it just to get above 10mph. Took it off the pedal but left the one under the hood plugged in.

Thanks again everyone for the responses!

I would like to install my Intelitronix Trans Temp gauge but I don't know where to put the 1/8" NPT sending unit. Can you help me with that? 2010 Tundra CM 5.7 2wd.
