Was my Leer cap installed correctly?

Just got back from the truck shop and noticed a large gap between the bottom lip of my new Leer XR cap and the bed of the truck. They installed the cap on top of the plastic bed protectors. This shop does a ton of installs so I'm guessing it's correct but just wasn't expecting that much of a gap and wanted to make sure. Thanks!

 

I thought the same thing about my XQ, but was told it was properly installed. I haven't had any issues at all.

Does it leak when it rains because of the gap??

 

I've had three canopies on previous trucks. They're not built to tight tolerances. I'd make sure the gaps are the same on either side. It's easy enough to loosen the clamps and shift it slightly. You can do the same front to back.

 

I've got the same truck/topper (minus the color).... My gaps are exactly the same. You won't notice it after a while

 

I ordered my 100XR for my 2020 DC today and the sales person said Leer recently changed the design to make the canopies about 1/8" wider earlier models were tighter and rubbing on the paint.

6 weeks until I get mine.

 

Sorry I didn't get around to checking sooner. The gap on mine is a bit smaller than yours. The only time I've really seen any water inside was after pressure washing the truck. Even after a torrential rain storm, I don't generally get any water inside the canopy. There's been a tiny bit near the back recently but I think that's because the glue on the seal on the door let go on one side, which I'm hoping the installer will fix under warranty in the next couple weeks.

 

Retighten the hardware after a hundred miles.

 

Totally normal. Any tighter and any small shift would end up rubbing against your paint.

 

It was no longer a problem after I tightened the bolts 3 months post install. I was surprised how many rotations I got until it was firmly tight, which lowered the gap a bit.
