    Hey Guys.

My grandson has a 2006 Tundra 4.7l. His radiator tank cracked, and the engine got hot. I helped him get it apart and had the heads checked for cracks and resurfaced.

To get the heads off, we pulled the cams, but did not open up the vvt on the camshafts.

My question is does oil have to be added to the vvt before re timing the engine?

I'm an old guy (68) and used to hot rod small block Chevys back in the day, and I am almost over my head with this technology.

Any help would be very much appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to read my thread.

    The Boltman

Nope. You are good to go. It may be a little loud on first start up while oil is getting everywhere it needs to be but should die down after a second or two. It seems like you have this under control.
