I had the “ Factory Remote Start “ installed by the dealer when I bought the truck. In my option, IT’S GARBAGE!!

it uses the original key fob and you press the lock button 3 times. Takes multiple times before I get it to work. Half the time when it starts the horn/panic will go off with it. I have to manually unlock the door with the key, key fob won’t do it and when I asked the dealer why that would work they said it’s a safety issue and that none of the trucks with remote start will allow a key fob to remote open a door.

Does anyone else have this issue?? Or do I need to take this to another dealer or take it back to the dealer that installed this and tell them they are full of it and need to fix it?!

Tell them to take it out, get your money back if you paid for this option and get an aftermarket

“I have to manually unlock the door with the key, key fob won’t do it and when I asked the dealer why that would work they said it’s a safety issue....”

That’s not accurate; the fortin unit that James (@tech12volts) sells starts my truck with three presses of the lock button, I can unlock with the fob, open the door (truck stays running - some units shut off as soon as you open the door), put key in ignition and turn it on......works like a charm. Factory start may be different but there’s a possibility that they didn’t tap into the right wire to enable it to unlock with the fob when remotely started.

I have an aftermarket one and can unlock the doors with the key fob after I remote start. When they installed mine they had the issue of the alarm going off, but they kept adjusting the settings and got it fixed.

It stays running after door opens too. Have to hit the brake to turn it off. Mine also doesn’t have the 10 min timer. It’ll run til it’s out of gas.

Try to unlock first, then hit lock 3 times. Alarm shouldn’t go off then as I think there is a 60 second window after hitting unlock before alarm rearms.

Factory toyota remote start is garbage. Shuts off when you unlock from the fob, shuts off when you open the door, range sucks, etc.

Fortin remote start on my 18’. Uses factory key. 3 locks and it’s running. Works flawlessly. So well in fact, I just put the same one on my wife’s 18’ highlander.

New Tundra owner here. I bought a truck with I don't know which type of remote start brand it is, OEM or aftermarket. I had no clue it had one until I accidentally started it one day with the factory key fob. 3 clicks of the lock button, it was working fine, parking lights come on, and idles put the key in the ignition, etc. Recently now it comes on only for a few seconds, and parking lights just flicker on and off when it's trying to stay running. Any thoughts and recommendations?

Having an idea what brand it is might help. If its just three clicks of the lock button, and not 2 clicks, hold down on the 3rd for 3 seconds, it's probably aftermarket, and most likely a Fortin Evo One (a popular unit for our trucks). If I had to guess, its a tach sensor issue. I believe the Fortin gets that info thru the Can-Bus connection. Check to see if its loose, or disconnected.

Well it's not Fortin. It set off the alarm while it was trying to start. Don't know exactly what I'm looking for under the hood. Any help or advance would be greatly appreciated.

I installed the Start-X, a bit under 1-hr, and so far it works perfect, without the issues listed above. I ordered the
Carlink app start so all in I'm around $355 providing my own labor.

I believe, don't quote me, and it's way to cold for me to go uut aside and look around (sorry) but the installer put a sticker on the battery saying compustar remote installed. But again don't quote me.

I do hate that it turns off when unlocking or opening door (makes no sense to me) but I do love the Toyota connected services. Just for shits and giggles I tried locking my doors from my hotel room in Atlanta this past week (I was in my wife’s QX80) and it started in my drive way in Nashville. Now, I obviously do t need that kind of range but knowing I can lock my doors or unlock from virtually anywhere is kinda cool to me.
Plus I like some of the other features.

The unit itself would most likely be under the dash somewhere. Did you check the Can-Bus connection?
