So I forgot to start this thread the other day, but this is happening when it's raining outside, we have a doggie door i put up few years back when we got Max, all the other dogs know how to use when they need to go, but the two famous ones on this forum (Max n Gemma) go in the house when it's raining out, we even have a covered patio and still go by the back door rug area, then Max hiked on the corner of the back end of the couch and up against the wall, anyone have this problem with their dogs when it's raining? Any suggestions?

What bad weather? Your dogs wouldnt like it up here then.

You'll have to physically take them outside. If they go out when its nice and use the doggy door, then they are being stubborn and/or not being punished. You need to punish them so they know there are consequences. You dont need to beat them, but putting them in doggy time out for an hour or two when you catch them doing it will help.

My dog did it when it rained. That dog hated rain.
I would have to catch her and correct her and it stopped.

She tried it at 10 years old. You can still teach them, they just need to be told no matter what

Stop them, tell them no, take them outside, turn around and mumble to yourself

Even on a late at night on a no rain night, you can hear them go out by themselves, as for a rainy night or just wet soaked yard, they won't go even if you carry them, then run back inside

Little dogs dont like to get wet. My dads is the same way with the morning dew. Need to block the doggy door and make them stay out. Walk out into the grass and get them to come to you. They wont like it but they will get used to it.

Throw some bacon out there! Max will go get it!

    Lost track after #1.
Sounds like some sort of underlying territorial issue cropped up or maybe a loud thunderclap just spooked them from going outside. Time to start back with crate training or a small room they can claim as their space and feel comfortable during storms, then graduating them to larger spaces. Be sure to clean the hell out of the indoor pee areas too.

I think you have to pee all over the floors of your house to show dominance

    see if that works :boink:

Sound like trade-in candidates... :rain: That, or follow them around when it's raining and drink lots of beer. When they piss in the house, you piss on them... call the wife to clean up since you have done your part of the job... :itllbuffout:

My dog hated going outside. Find something they like more than most. My dog has a cookie treat. The only time she gets it is when she goes potty outside. It is for potty only. It will take patience but you can do it. My dog will hold it as long as she can to get that treat. It is all about positive reinforcement. You can get a dog to do anything with positive reinforcement. In my past life, my life literally depended on my dog and my ability to train with it.

I feel ur pain. Cosmo hated to go out when it was raining. As mentioned above, I physically carried him out to back yard and left him till he did his business. Kept telling him good boy and gave him a treat. It took about 2 weeks. He doesn't piss in the house anymore.

My cat will use it's box no matter what the weather is, but he will get in my face if I have not cleaned the box.

    Frank-Snowshoe.jpg

Over the years, I have walked my dogs out to do their business in all sorts of weather day & night. You need to take the dog out, and stay with it until it's finished - make it a game it wants to play.
