I've been trying to get mine ready to move into and hit the road! There is a guy on YouTube that has been living in the back of a Tacoma for 5 years.

@Bailey has been. Lots of adventures and amazing pictures of the places he's been.

I could do vacations in the back of my tundra, doubt i would want to live in it. I like my house too much.

I'll check that user out you posted. The simplicity of it really appeals to me...

I think that question is situation-dependent--but I like your attitude--and love of beer.

Probably make for an interesting thread, though:monocle:

Edit: I totally get the simplicity aspect of the idea.

I lived in the back of an '85 Corolla Hatchback for about a month in high school when I got kicked out of my house - I think I could do a Tundra no problem - but as @jewsNbrews said, I like my house too much.

I don't know...I LOVE the idea. The stoic isolation, the random ad-hoc adventures, the freedom of writing your own chapter day by day, all to wind up in a simple, well kept truck bed with modern day technical amenities like USB charging, LED lighting and purpose built storage options? What's not inviting about that? My kids and wife would simply have to learn to understand....lol

Maybe if I lived somewhere that didnt get cold. It's -39 + wind chill here today. Ain't nobody living the truck bed life at those temps.

It’s totally doable. I’d definitely want something you could stand up in like my habitat or I’d do a flatbed tray with a 4WC. That’s obviously way heavier and more expensive but it depends on what you want for creature comforts and where you want to go

I lived in mine with a Leer topper for a summer. (~4 months) It was hot but a small portable fan took the edge off. Luckily I have a shower in my office. It wasn't too bad, but I definitely like living in my house more.

I wound up putting my bed on the floor of the truck bed as opposed to building a platform. I like it this way because I could fully sit up without hitting my head. It kept me from going stir crazy during some summer monsoons. Just one thing to consider.

Yup this is pretty awesome. if you don’t intend to to much off road it would be an awesome setup. Definitely a lot of weight on the rear though if you get into something more technical.

My wife thinks so, she usually suggests it with an f-bomb when she’s mad at me.

Spent a year living out of my Tacoma w/ my cattle dog. Travelled across the country seeing family and friends along the way. Rock climbed my ass off as well. Some fond memories. I highly recommend it.

I used this mattress and took the top folding section off:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ENUINIO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used this mattress cover and took up the excess using fabric sticking velcro:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JIV5YSE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then I covered the whole setup with a canvas tarp:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075FFYSJX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used these eyelets in the bed rails:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0767KLF35/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    With these T nuts:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07739WXJB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I kinda go over how I did it at minute 11:19 of this video. Let me know if you have questions...

If i wasn't married I would do it or get a camper.

No need for a big ass place when it would be me and my dog in a warm state.

ARE cap w/ rear hatch (no tail gate).
    Kinda like this one.
Had a Thule rack w/ a skinny cargo box on one side and open basket on the other.
Also built out the inside of the bed area extensively. It was sweet. [IMG]

A cheap camper would be better, you need to stand up once in a while.

I think I could do it if I was single and had the right setup, not having a shower would be my biggest concern.

Live long term? No. But if I was in my twenties again, single and had saved some coin I'd definitely do a cross country trip for a few summer months.

Here's an update. I'm headed west in the Tundra for a couple of months. Here's my gear load out.... Adding some Hellwig helpers today to manage the weight.

It looks like now I will also tow my offroad tear drop as my two sons 14 & 11 are going to join for the first 3 weeks. May drop the trailer somewhere out west for a few weeks after they return home to explore more remotely. I've got my eye on the Beartooth-Absaroka wilderness area as one of the areas for major exploration.

If anybody's been... or has gear adds/changes/deletes I'd be interested in the feedback.

I have the shell, it's an 8' long high wedge A.R.E. with a full size hatch. All I would need to do it outfit & set it up for life on the road, so yes I could - but no I don't have any desire to do so.

    IMG_7753.jpg

    I voted yes, but...
