my concern is that i already had a bar across my battery with the J hooks. The J hooks i believe were the weak link, as i'm thinking they may be with this setup also.
the bar i had on mine came loose while i was off roading, and the bar on top made contact with the positive post. it was nasty. the bar melted a bunch of wires and my truck was going ape shit, i didnt know why until i pulled over and saw the damage. even part of my battery was melted.

i have a ratchet strap on there now.

I dont mind spending a bit of $$ on a quality product, which i can see the machined piece is beautiful, but the J-hooks are the problem.

could they be made from a stronger material?

Th j hooks could be made out of a stronger material, but in you case of heavy off-roading, by guess is it is not the material, but the attachment point at the bottom of the battery box. You probably need a more positive attachment point than a "hook".

Let me look at the battery attachment tonight when I get home and I will suggest something.
