You just need a cheep digital caliper for shimming a dial Indicator for backlash and a 1/4" 0 to 80 in/lbs spring steel beam tourq wrench for setting pinion bearing preload. For the front diff I had to make a special tool for setting the back lash because you have to measure it through the oil drain hole. You could get all the tools for $100 to $200.

DOn't need to worry about the pinion bearing or pinion shims if not changing gearing.

Surprised Torsen hasn't released anything for the 10.5. They seem to supply Toyota/Lexus LSDs for some time now. My ISF Torsen was awesome and plan on picking one up for my wife's IS350 here shortly.

This is the first vehicle that I have owned with any sort of computerized traction control, so I have another question.
    .
    .
Do I need to turn OFF the VSC / LSD in order for the Auburn PRO to work properly?

Yes is the most comprehensive answer. Meaning, stock with no computers, your truck will be simply an open diff, and with the Auburn without computers you will solely be relying on the Auburn for slip control.

The other side to that is if the Auburn is doing it's job and not letting the tires break loose, then, with nannies on, the computer won't sense a slip and you still move forward.

I would always turn the computer off if you want the most driver interaction/control.

Im just thinking out loud, but the auto lsd can only help the auburn i think

most situations, the auburn will maintain traction and the auto lsd will never kick on.

now if you get some slippage, the auto lsd will control that tire and allow the auburn another chance

I have been researching the installation of an LSD in my 2007... I have a Kazuma/TRD LSD in my 2002 and love it. Auburn Gear makes an LSD for 2nd Generation Tundra trucks, but I found the information available online was inconsistent - so I reached out to Auburn Gear.

I think you will find the answers to my questions interesting....

I asked what gear oil they recommended:

We recommend an 80/90 wt. NON-Synthetic oil which we offer, p/n 504107, and our additive, p/n 504102. The additive comes with our units when purchased new.

We do not recommend any type of synthetic oils, TransX additive or any oils that already have an additive in them. I also do not recommend Lucas. All of these will cause noise that can be severe in our units because of design.

I asked why I could no longer find a Pro LSD for the Tundra:

We only offer this in the High Performance. It will be as good as the Pro considering the size of this unit and strength to begin with. The biggest difference between the HP and the Pro is spring load.

I asked about the different spring loads:

We never offered the Pro Series for the 2007 and up Toyota Tundra.

    Spring Pre-Load H.P. Series 840 lbs.

Spring Pre-Load Pro Series 1800 lbs.

What are the OEM part numbers for the carrier bearings, shims and whatever else is needed to install an LSD?

If you’re just changing the diff shouldnt all the shims stay the same? The pinion shim wont be un done so thats good.
I just bought an auburn for my 2wd ill look for install soon

I have read that you should replace the carrier bearings, because they tend to break when removed.

I also just ordered an Auburn, so I am researching what I need to install it correctly.

That's very interesting since I have a Pro for mine. I purchased from justdifferentials.com along with carrier bearings. The part was AG5420134-PRO. I used Auburn additive with Valvoline non-synthetic 80w-90 as recommended. They also recommend 7,500 mile diff oil changes which the mechanic who installed it and I thought was a little excessive since I don't romp on it. I did it at 15k, and no issues. Still locks up when I have tested it on dirt.

I'm not sure, but it sounds like multiple names for one LSD.

Also, enjoy the hell out of the 5.29s - the single best mod for these trucks IMO!

Did you reach out to them or Auburn to see if there's any warranty claim? or would they repair it for you?

I'm excited for the 5.29, the headers already did wonder to the truck so can't wait for the gears to be installed and broken in.

The moderators deleted most of my posts, but yes Auburn was actually awesome about the warranty situation.

Good to hear Auburn stood up for it, I don't do any or much rock crawling, so I figure I should be ok with Auburn for now.

Mine went in 2.5-3k miles of street driving! But they did test it and confirm that there was an obvious assembly error. That being said, most folks who drive their trucks daily get about a year out of them.
