It's somewhat of a long shot for a move but I need some local opinions on the Lexington KY area. Nice areas of Lexington? Property/real estate opinions, crime, and so on.
    Much appreciated.

I live in Lexington. If your looking to buy, I would suggest trying to find a place inside the New Circle road. There is not "new land" inside so houses tend to increase more than outside the circle. Id say its fairly safe on crime, I don't ever feel unsafe. What areas have you been looking at?

Saw some promising apartments that are on the southeast side around the intersection of 4 and 25 (E New Circle Rd and Richmond Rd). We would probably rent a three bedroom apartment for a year before we buy. Only reason would be to get our bearings on where we want to buy a home/land outside the city. Would like to pick up 2+ acres outside the city at some point.
I have read online that Lexington is rated as the 10th cleanest city in the US. That's a pretty good selling point on top of everything else that I'm reading.

Lexington's a nice city and defiantly growing. There have been a lot of new restaurants and brewerys popping up. The area your looking at is fairly close to downtown. New circle is the main road around Lexington, so having quick access to that makes life easier. You're about an hr away from the Red River Gorge. Great Hiking/rock climbing. There's a few off road trails down there as well.

Appreciate the info. How's the fishing around the area?

Not a big fisherman so I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm more into adventure sports. I see a lot of people fishing at Jacobson park. I have friends who kayak fish on the Elkhorn Creek near Frankfort Ky. So ther is fishing in the area.

Lexington is quite a bit smaller Dallas/Ft.Worth but Twist is right it's a great city. Fishing Lake Cumberland or Laurel Lake would be a great spot. We're about an hour south of Lexington on I-75. Proximity to work would be my deciding factor for renting/buying in Lexington. Where will your work be? And what kind of commute time are you used to?

I don't know the exact location(s) at this time. One is near the courthouse in downtown. I have no knowledge of a secondary site even though I know that there is one. My current commute time is 5 minutes. Previously, my commute time was an hour or more.

5 minutes is great! I recently moved and my commute time went from 7 minutes to 12 minutes and I can't stand it.

It's been a few years since I lived in Lexington but I always felt going into town on us-68(harrodsburg rd) was easier/quicker. Plus it seams less commercially developed out that way. We lived just outside the circle and it was a 15-20 minute drive to downtown depending on traffic.

Lived in central Kentucky most of my life, great place to live. Been all over the country, I would not want to live anywhere else. Friendly people, good food and beautiful scenery.
Might look in the Georgetown, Ky area too. More rural than Lexington, but your commute would be about 15mins. Great small town feel though. Property value is lower also. The south elkhorn creek has great small mouth fishing. If your looking for bigger fish, farm ponds are your best bet. Also down in crab orchard, beaver creek lake has good bass fishing too. Your a couple of hours away from the big south fork national recreation area and a hour away from Daniel Boone national forest. If you can’t tell I am proud of where I am from! Oops just saw this was an old thread!
