Okay so this is weird I’ve had my 04 ac 2wd for about two years and it’s always had a delayed shift and grabs kind of hard and it feels like it pulls the truck forward in first to second and sometimes third but that’s only when it’s hot if it’s cold it doesn’t really do it as bad and shift kinda normal I changed my fluid twice to get some of the funk out a few months back and it never did anything I didn’t change my filter though a lot of people are telling that’s what it might be I also feel like I filled the trans wrong because I can never get it up to 158 only around 124/133 so I have it at the hot mark on those temps I’m just really confused on what’s the problem and it drives me nuts trying to figure out what’s going on... if you guys can shed some light on this I’d really appreciate.

To help out the Gen1 guys: Does your truck have 4.7L or 3.4L engine? How many miles? When was fluid changed last? What do you mean by "158"...is that the transmission temperature? Your 2004 transmission has a dipstick, right?

4.7 with 200k the fluid was changed a couple months ago and I don’t know before that and yes 158F is the operating trans temp and it does have the dipstick

Link below is a good video on 2004 4.7L transmission fluid change. This guy has an accent, but he's smart and thorough. Review this and compare to your process. Because of the high mileage (200K), he changes the strainer which you may have skipped. At the end of the video, he shows how to check the fluid level. Beyond making sure you have the proper fluid level, trying to diagnose your transmission long distance will be impossible. I wouldn't worry too much about the transmission running colder than you think it should, unless that behavior is a sudden change from past performance.

Maybe the Gen1 guys will have some ideas.

I’d take it to a transmission service specialist. They have diagnostic equipment they can plug in to your truck and analyze your situation. Sometimes its an easy fix like a new solenoid/valve body kit. Other times its bad mojo on your gears/convertor.

Yup proper fluid type and level are very important.

Other than that take it somewhere to have it looked at before it gets any worse.
