Has anyone had any issues running just CB shackles and shims without steering kit?

I don't know why you'd need the steering kit. Maybe if your going long travel or doing some really hard driving, big bumps, holes etc.

Just installed 295 70 18s and orsered 4 shims and 3in shackles. Had never heard of the steering kit til recently. Just wondering if it's necessary.

I'm pretty sure you don't. But, they do look really bad azz. If you've got a prerunner style bumper, you see all that stuff and then it looks really good. I think the steering kit is more for Baja style off road driving, big hits.

Ok, so the shims will lift the front 1" above where you're at now. The shackles are +3. I forget how much that lifts the back, 2" maybe. Dave makes a really nice steering kit and I'm sure he'll be glad to advise you about it. He makes great stuff. If I had a ton of money, I'd get one. I think it's stronger than stock and certainly looks a lot better. But it doesn't sound like you'll need one. The thing that might be beneficial to you is new UCAs. But, I don't think you need them.

2" CB shackles and shims. No problems. No steering kit. Don't know why I would.

We designed our Coachbuilder steering kit for the PROs for a few reasons.. The PROs use the same outer tie rod assembly as the other tundra models and have found the UCA/LCA to have plenty of travel. The outer tie rods being the smallest joint up front really feel the pull once the coilovers have a chance to fully cycle, forcing the toe in and out. Wheel chatted in the steering wheel (60-70 mph) loose feeling out of tight corners, restricted turning radius are all because of the limitations from this small joint. Outer tread wear is also a great indicator..

OE Rod ends are good for about 19-20 degrees of travel in either direction and will see just over 27 degrees with our steering kit installed. So for just about the cost of one tire you can upgrade the steering, have a clean and crisp feel in the steering wheel, all joints are sized the same with equal travel and your tires won't take a beating on the outer portion of the tread.

    Hope this helps. David

Quick question, I got the pro suspension just installed on my limited crewmax, when I decide to add the shims, do I need to remove the whole coil over or is it possible to compress the spring and slip them in?

You don't need to compress the springs. There's several threads with detailed information and some pictures. It's a lot easier to do up on a lift than just on jack stands.

With the threaded studs facing up on the coilover top plates the entire assembly needs to come out jus along enough to place the shims above the top plate.(about 15 seconds) Loosening the back nut on the UCA and removing the lower front sway bar end link bolts before putting the truck up in the air will allow the suspension to hang far enough to get the coilover assembly out pretty easy.

Can that be done in the driveway with a regular 3 ton hydraulic jack?

Yes, you'll need a set of jack stands in order to hold the truck up while you're using the jack to lower the spindle assembly. but very straight forward install.

The spindle is in the front suspension and is the part that bolts to the upper and lower control arm. This area as well as the rear leafs can all be worked on with a basic floor jack and stands.
