    You are welcome!

The tires are Michelin Defender LTX e-rated 285/75/r16 which is 32.8”, I believe.

I’m the wrong person to discuss lifts, as they aren’t something I desire. What I can tell you is I am very happy with this size tire which has been on my truck since 2004. Its the biggest tire one can fit without lifting and at the same time keeping the mud flaps. It has a slight rub on the frame on full turns.

Seems as if some of the more aggressive off roading type tires in 285 fit a little bigger than say the Michelin Defender.

Luckily before the rain came, I installed an awning for the truck. Ive had a make shift one for a couple years, but this one should be a lot nicer. I just drilled through the thicker part of my shell and put bolts all the way through and then cut a 1/8" thick piece of steel to make plates for the bolts to attach to on the inside. Hopefully it holds up well. Feels pretty solid and I did this with my solar panel over a year ago and its been holding strong. IMG_20200209_163047110_HDR.jpg IMG_20200209_163105844_HDR.jpg

Oh, so you never lifted your truck at all? I didnt think you could fit those without lifting. Do you know the hight of the front of your truck, from center cap to fender?

I was doing a lot of reading before joining this site and many were saying 285/75/r16 wasn’t doable. I smiled knowing it was as I had been on them for so long without a lift. My Bilstiens are currently at one notch up from stock, but prior the truck has been on regular stocks.

I measured it once (she said) and posted it over on @Darkness thread he started last year where everyone inputed their heights.

I forget the name of the thread, but that would be a good place for you to suss out what you like and don’t like in terms of lifts/wheels. Here is another pic I stole from a guy here who did some experimentations on the same truck.

I want one! If I don't find a shell by summer time I might have to make one. If I'm not running a shell I want a bed rack deal and then I was thinking of running an awning over the bed and out the other side of the truck. That way I can go out to the desert to :infantry: I can hang out off to the side of the truck or shoot from the bed. In the summer the grass gets pretty tall and it's easier to go prone with a scope in the bed than flatten all the grass around you. Not to mention snakes and scorpions and red ants. My buddy has a flat bed that makes a great shooting platform. We just need an awning for that one too. Too bad my tundra rides about 10x better than his f450.

I’m enjoying my few days of cap life so far.
Now I have blind spots, but minor
If I really wanted I can add blind spot cameras to the radio

Yeah I remember the blind spots. My rear window is so dark I don't think I'd remember I had a shell until I went to back up and noticed my field of view was better because if I have a shell, the (or a) camera is probably getting mounted to it.

I didn't do anything with the tundra this weekend besides drive to a celebration of life and haul around about 12- 2x4x96, 10- 2x2x96, and 3 sheets of plywood. Three things to take away... 1-the tundra handles great with a little weight back there. 2- I wasn't even coming close to utilizing the overhead space in my garage until now after starting my shelves. 3- live a good life. I see all these people that have been touched by one man and I get a little hollow feeling. Wow this guy brought all you to religion, or showed you how to fix a car, or showed you how to ranch, or whatever. Pretty big eye opener because I think my list would be pretty small and superficial if I left this world tomorrow. Get busy living!!!

Ugg, I hate when people loose lug nuts and use whatever fits. I had to replace 4 lug nuts and wheel studs. From being snapped off.

I’ve never ran into this issue.
I’m usually stuck removing swollen stock lug nuts

Nearly 20 years of driving and never backed into anything. 1 year of having a cap and I've hit my wife's car and my neighbors truck. Thankfully I didn't hurt his truck and he was nice about it. Between my 5% tint and the fact that my cap is missing 1 window, I can't see squat. Can't wait to get this backup camera installed. I should really add some aux lights too.

It's the windows on my truck. I can't see anything at night. 5% tint is borderline dangerous in my opinion. I was supposed to get 15% but they were out and convinced me to just go with 5%. Sure does look good though. I can pick my nose at red lights and no one sees me.

I’ve ripped tint off every car I’ve owned.

And I’m legally allowed to tint my windshield. But I can’t stand the lack of visibility at night

Moar buying today :) Used VVTI intake, fuel rail and throttle body. Got to try the swap to see if it actually does anything. Along with some DD injectors, of course.

I've had two caps on my Tacoma. Always end up coming off because 1. I can't see sh*t with them on & 2. never liked the high weight on the short/narrow truck. There was a free cap in town, color matched to the Tundra that I just couldn't bring myself to go get. Ended up putting the Tacoma cap on the trailer - versatility w/o the blind spots. The visibility is one of the best features of a truck.

damn regular cab almost NEEDED the cap. the extra weight has made it soo much nicer to drive. the ass actually wants to stay planted with normal driving

I dig that. Been thinking about mounting something there - bolted to the existing hole, right? - but haven't gotten around to it yet. I tried reading through posts after this but didn't find anything: what mount is that, and is it designed to be bolted on, or did you drill it out?

Awesome, thanks for the quick response! I'm working on a "road trip computer" that brings together a lot of the data I like to see - weather conditions, forecast, elevation, etc., and I've thought of mounting it like that. Or building it into the sunglasses holder... anyhow, it might be a while before I actually get to that project, but if I do I'll report back.

I liked it right there. I kept my phone down low so it didn’t hinder vision. But I could keep an eye on it easily. Was nice when the taco was running

[IMG] Got mostly an interior. Have to find an access cab center console before I can have it fully installed. So no carpet till I know the console fits and where I’d have to cut for brackets

have to find column trim with tilt steering too

I found the post by looking through @Darkness thread history

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/how-big-is-yours-measure-up.46186/

You said around 21.5 and Im at about 21.25, but you have an 01 and i got 03 so maybe that will effect it. I probably need to go up like another half an inch.

I was looking at Toyo h/t 2 in 285/70/17 but Im not sure about the E rating. How is it in your truck?
