Since none of my local shops have the gun I'm looking for, I am looking into purchasing online and having it shipped to my closest FFL.

Have never purchased a firearm online before, is there any sites that you guys recommend?

Have found the gun I wanted on a few sites, but hard to tell if they are very reputable. Is there an easy way to tell if they are the real deal or not?

Hadn't thought about that yet, will definitely give it a shot first. Thanks Ron!

Even though your local dealers don't stock the gun you want, can't they order it for you?

I will definitely go ask now, wasn't sure how all of that worked. Do gun stores typically have vendors that carry a variety of brands or do they deal directly with the manufacturers?

I have purchased countless firearms online. I have my C&R and have had a number of firearms shipped to my FFL as well. I have never had a bad experience with any retailer other than Classic Firearms. I have placed multiple orders with Classic but the last one sat in "processing" status for over a month before they finally agreed to cancel the order and refund it.

www.gunbroker.com is great, as you can sometimes get really good deals here.

www.tooeleshootingsupply.com is my local gun shop. It's privately owned and family run, typically has the best prices in my state (even when comparing online and accounting for sales tax they often have the best prices) and I can say with confidence that they communicate well and ship quickly.

To answer your most recent question - yes. FFLs have access to wholesalers and most of them are using the same backend to stock their shelves. Different FFLs might use different distributors, but generally speaking they're all pulling from the same supply.

Tooele Shooting Supply will actually give you access (hit the TSS Warehouse link on their website) to what they are able to order. They might even be able to get more than what's listed there if you call and talk to Chad.

Good luck! I once searched for over 2 years to get a .308 bolt gun I was looking for. Hope you find it!

Looks like @Backslider just answered that for you. But yes they will be able to order you anything available, as long as they are willing to do so. My local shop is very accommodating.

I hear with the "internet loophole" you can have fully automatic ghost guns with 100 round clipazines that can shoot 5000 rpm delivered right to your doorstep!

I always check for the best price for ammo on Slickguns.com before committing to a seller. It works for firearms as well. I buy a lot of 5.7 x 28mm FNH ammo and have found Slickguns to be a valuable resource for getting the lowest price and customer reviews for each seller.

Some food for thought. Always nice to buy high end parts, and have someone knowledgeable assemble for you (if you're not comfortable with doing it). I'm sure the reason is fairly obvious...If purchasing a finished unit, I like to purchase locally.

    Also Gunbroker.
Ive used both with excellent results.
Use the Gun Genie on Gallery of guns, find the gun you want, then get price quotes from your local dealers and pick the one you want. I love using that service.
