about to head to the snow in a week and they require "snow tires" on all 4 wheels for 4WD vehicles or chains. thanks

CHAINS ARE REQUIRED ON ALL VEHICLES EXCEPT 4-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLES WITH SNOW TIRES ON ALL 4 WHEELS

    w
hat is the definition of "snow tires " in this case ?

Yes, they will pass. Usually on the tire it will say m+s on there somewhere.

There are dedicated snow tires that have more sipes, softer rubber compounds, studs, walnut shells in the tread, etc. The RT has an M + S rating which means that it is an all season tire that also meets Rubber Manufacture Association for mud and snow.

Rear. Putting them on the front is a recipe for the back end to kick out in a turn or while braking. The tire shop I used to work at before the Marine Corps wouldn't even allow us to put them in the front of vehicles, regardless if they were front or rear drive.
