It's tough lol. We have never been to Europe or Africa and love animals. We cannot decide, when I read this thread it's pretty much split as well lol. It is a good problem to have though

And everyone here has some good opinions

Having been on both a couple of times (2 hunting safaris and 1 photo) I'd ask a couple of questions 1) Budget. You can go cut rate on a safari, but you kinda get what you pay for as far as lodging and the game parks they go to. 2) what do you like to do on vacation? Relax or be out and about every day? If you want relaxation with option of heading out on day trips, do the Med Cruise. I would also say that a photo safari gets a bit old after a day or two. Once you've seen all the animals and taken thousands of pictures, they kinda all look the same after the first few hundred zebras, impalas, gemsboks, wildebeest, elephant and even lions.

If you do go on a safari, don't go to SA, go to Ngorongoro crater area of Tanzania.

Lastly I'd say African Safari is 2-3 time cost of a sweet cruise with flights, lodging, etc...

We are not married to the idea of being solely in South Africa. We can definitely check Tanzania as a destination spot instead. As long as I get to roll around with some baby lions or some shit lol

OZ is 24 hours away....get there and then spend the first 5 days getting over the jet lag, coming back is different, you land before you take off..how weird is that (thanks IDL). Beautiful place though, shame about the folks, hahahhaha

Ok Kevin Richardson. I have been nipped in the ass by a baby tiger, and that was no fun....and it was just her playing around. I was amazed at how strong these cubs were at their rather small size. Coolest animal experience though...ever. There were three in the yard that day. Amazing.

Wife and I did the Med. cruise. Loved it and we do lots of cruises. Never have done, or even considered, a safari. My wife is a girly girl and doesn't like dirt or sweat so safari did not appeal to her. (We're like the couple on the old TV show Green Acres.) Have good friends who did the safari and loved it. It really depends on your life style. Do a side-by-side comparison. Make sure whatever you decide, you BOTH agree to it.

I voted for the Safari, but both has its positives and negatives IMO.
    I'm sure it's a hard decision.

Really hard for me to contribute constructive input. I would never want to do either unless paid to do it. I don't like people much and hate crowds of em. I don't like the idea of a guided tour vacation at all. When I go to Europe I plan two weeks in Italy, 1 in Rome as a tourist and 1 down south hanging out at a villa. I'm reminded every day how good it is we're all different, one of the reasons it's fun to follow threads on the forum. When I drink alone I prefer to be by myself. Glad you are getting the chance to have the adventure of a lifetime with the love of your life. I wish you all the best whichever way you choose and hope you return home safely.

The other "down side/upside" of African Safari will be that you will absolutely fall in love with the 4 door Landcruiser pickup and will try at all cost to import one to US...so plan on that expense!

This. I have been on 3 cruises. 2 with Royal Caribbean and 1 with Carnival. I will never go on another Carnival after being spoiled like I was on Royal. Night and day difference.
