I'm sure this has been posted before but I'm being too lazy to try and search for the answer. I was going to lift my truck with a toytec boss kit but I ran into a family issue and can't spend that much right now. I was wanting some info on the Bilstein 5100 shocks. Just looking to level the truck out for now and jump up to a 275 70 18 tire. Can you guys give me some pros and cons. Any other add ons I would need for this setup? Any rubbing issues? I am going to use my stock rims so I was also wondering if I should get spidertrax spacers or not. @Sean266 @csuviper @Law323 I know you guys are pretty knowledgeable about this. What are your thoughts. Thanks

I'm running bilsteins with 275 65r 18s with no spacers on stock rims and have plenty of room left over. I wish I would have bought the 70s now. You shouldn't have any issues with rubbing. Posted a pic to give you an idea. I put 1 inch blocks in the rear as well.

Thanks for the pic. Looks nice! What setting did you put the shocks on? All the way up? If so did you have to put a differential drop on?

Depending on the severity and/or length of time your family issue will affect your finances, I'd wait and get the BOSS kit when it's more feasible. You'd spend less money that way.
If not, get the bilsteins. You really can't go wrong with either one. If you're looking for a 3/1, I'd get a little bigger tire like 295/70's, but with a 2.5, a 275/70 would look good. Maybe a little wider 295/65 or 285/70?

It would cost a little more for them to put on the stock coils on the bilsteins with install. Good luck with your decision brother!!

Also, you won't need spacers with stockies unless you go 295/70's.
But it would improve the stance a good bit!!

And you shouldn't have any rubbing issues whatsoever.

Can you run 295s on stock 8 in rims? That would save me a grand if i stayed stock and used spacers. Then I could get rims later

I'm not entirely sure but I think you'd definitely have rubbing issues staying stock on 295's
(with a lift it may rub on the UCA's and without, you may have clearance issues PLUS UCA rub) but wouldn't have any issues on that size rim whatsoever.

It's a catch 22 I know. I had a similar conundrum. So I stupidly got a spacer lift, stayed stock on wheels with no wheel spacers and got 275/70's this past summer. Now I'm ponying up for the BOSS kit. Just trying to prevent you from spending more money in the long run.

Ideally, I'd say just get the front coils and, stay stock on rims for now. You might be ok with 275's since the BOSS is adjustable and can jump up later on when you spring for new tires.

OR you could get the bilsteins and 295's with wheel spacers. And later, sell the bilsteins on Craigslist and/or on this forum's marketplace

I was more saying can I get 295s on the stock rims, get the boss kit and run wheel spacers until I can get new rims? Think that would work?

Cool maybe I'll do that then. I wanna do it right (or as much as I can) if I can save spending 1G right now on rims that'll help. Just didn't know if you could physically but that size tires on the 8 in rim. Dont wanna have to deal with trying to sell the bilsteins later. Worse case I eat the spacers or just get rims later with a higher offset and use the spacers as well. Sound groovy?

Wouldn't put spacers on aftermarket wheels though. Just eat the couple hundred you spend on spacers and enjoy the build!!
I'm gonna have to eat about a grand plus $150 for my 275/70's and spacer lift. But it is what it is.

I have the bilsteins at full 2.5. And 1 inch block in rear with 275/70/18 bfg ko2 on Procomp wheels +12 offset
Had wheels on before lift had to remove front and rear mud flaps on the front. After lift I was able to put the rear one back on. I'm looking at putting on 295/70/18 cooper sst or 35/12.5/18 bfg ko2. The 275/70/18 look pretty skinny on 9" wheel

I am going with the same Bilstein 5100's set up on my new build! I have done a TON of research on sizing on this build and my last build. Allow me to share my last build info with you and what I did and did not like about it! My prior build heavily influenced my new build specs. I am on a tight budget with the family as well.
    New Build Parts:
-Bilstein 5100's/ max height in front 2.5 inches/ max height in rear 1"
-Toytec Shackles for the rear at the 1" setting, here is the link: http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com...table-1-15-Lift-Shackles-07Tundra_p_1579.html
-BFG Ko2's/ 285/65/R18 tires.....these came off my last truck
    -KMC 18"/ 5" Backspace/ 0 offset wheels......these cam off my last truck

    OLD BUILD PARTS:
-TOYTEC 3/1 LEVEL KIT (BLOCKS IN FRONT AND ADD A LEAF IN THE REAR)
    -BFG Ko2's/ 285/65/R18 tires
    -KMC 18"/ 5" Backspace/ 0 offset wheels

HERE ARE THE PHOTOS OF MY OLD TRUCKS BUILD WITH THE 3/1 LEVEL AND WHEELS AND TIRES AND I WILL TELL YOU WHAT I DID AND DID NOT LIKE

::::I raised the rear approx 1"-1.5" with the add a leaf to maintain a slight rake to the overall stance because I actually use my truck to haul sometimes and don't like it when the rear is lower than the front. That being said, the add a leaf made the rear end way to stiff! It was almost like driving around with no suspension in the rear! So if you decide to raise your rear end with those Bilstein 5100's to their 1" max height in the rear go with the 1inch shackle lift from toytec! It will be better on your other parts than adding a 1" block in the rear. If you don't want any rake than leave your rear 5100's set at 0 and your fronts to max height.

::::I went with 285/65/R18 tires and i had very minor rubbing on my old build which required me to remove the tiny mud flap in the front with a socket(super easy). My stock tires were 275/65/R18's and bumping up just the width made a significant size difference!

::::My new wheels have a 0 offset which pushes them out quite a bit from the stock wheels. This was on purpose! When you raise your truck, even 2.5", you are raising your center of gravity! After I had my level kit installed I drove around with the stock wheels for a week. It was to top heavy!!!! So when you lift your truck buy those Wheel spacers you are looking at to augment your stock wheels!! My ride was MUCH more balanced and stable after my new wider wheels were installed. Look at my first picture and you'll see they only stick out about 1 1/2 inches. So if you go to a 275/70/r18 the tire will be higher in addition to your lift. Push them out a bit for a more stable platform with wheel spacers and for a slightly more aggressive look since those tires are the same width as what you already have on your truck. If you just level it and put on taller tires it will still appear more stock and is a waste of all that money on the leveling shocks and larger tires for something that looks almost the same as stock (in my opinion).

:::: I was told to use the diff drop kit for 30$ just to be safe. It might not make that much of a difference but for that price it doesn't bother me and anything I can do to take stress off the stock system sounds like a good idea.......I hope this help! In hind sight I would have gone with a taller tire like you to fill more wheel well space.

Ive currently got a 3-1 level with 275/70r18's and I've never had any trouble with rubbing. Actually thinking about going wider with 33x12.50x18's. Mine had good stance without spacers.

The pics are of your old build with the 0 offset rims? I like the way they look. I think what I'm going to do is go with the boss kit from toytec UCA shackles in the back and 295 70 18 tires on stock rims with spacers for now and then get rims later. That way I can save a grand without the rims

Yes/ The pics are of my old build with the 0 offset rims! Good call on tire size/ those are what I'd like when these tires wear down. Please post pics of your ride when you are done with it! I'd love to see that tire size on a Tundra man! Cheers!!

Will do. It'll be a couple months but I'll for sure post here. Did you have any rubbing at all?

VERY minimal rubbing on the front mud flap. The flap is only 3" by 8" approx. There were only two small bolts holding it on. I took them off with a socket wrench in 2 minutes. You might not even have that issue at all due to your wheel specs, even if you go with spacers, but if you do it will be minimal according to most guys on this forum. You'd probably be able to take care of it your self very easily. I stressed with my build like crazy because I was flying blind and it turned out AWESOME....don't stress too hard and ENJOY your build dude!
I am sharing a link with you that one of the moderators posted on wheel and tire size. It is AMAZING and is the bible on sizing as far as I am concerned. I read over it very carefully before I did my build. Also, when you go to get your tires on have the guy role one out to your truck with you to eyeball it next to your wheel well. I did this and it is the reason I went with a 285/ 65R18 and not the 295/ 70 R18. As soon as I rolled the 285/65R18 next to the wheel well it looked tighter than anticipated. When you go up in height AND in width it changes the overall tire size dramatically!!!!! So I would make sure they have 2 or 3 size options in the tire you want so you can roll them next to your truck. If they give you grief about calling ahead of time to make sure they have 3 sizes available to you at the time of purchase to compare talk to the manager! They will make it happen because they want your money! Here is the link!

Why wouldn't you wanna run spacers with aftetmarket rims? I thought I saw on @Sean266 build he had spacers and aftermarket rims

If you have after market wheels, chances are you'll have less offset than stock. Best size spacers to get are 1.25 equal to 31-32 mm. If you have stockies or a wheel with 50 offset, they'll sit flush or outside the fender slightly. That's what you want to go for unless you want scratches and chips on your fender and door.
If you get a 40 mm offset wheel, with the spacer, you'll be nearing 0 offset which would warrant a CMC depending on tire size. sweet spot for tundras lies in 18-35 offset.

Just a FYI, the rear 5100s provide zero lift. They work with up to 1" rear lift, but don't actually provide it. For rear lift, you'll need blocks, shackles, AAL, etc.
