Welcome to Tundras. It all depends on what you plan to do with your truck and what type of finish you want on the running boards. Where I am at there is a lot of salt on the roads in the winter so I went with a pair of OEM running boards that are aluminum with a plastic covering over the entire board. I feel like if I went with anything different I would have problems with rust. If you plan to off road your truck you want boards that are tucked up higher and are a little stronger. I would think any crewmax running boards from 07-15 will fit your truck, so you can probably find a gently used set somewhere for cheap.
Let us know what you plan to do with the truck and what look you want and I'm sure people can point you in the right direction.

There are a few different types of OEM boards, this is my setup. I am happy with them so far. I sprayed bedliner on the mounting brackets to hopefully prevent rust. The downside to these are that the plastic gets beat by the sun and can fade.

Welcome! I would go with some sliders welded to the truck. They're more secure, can act as steps, and additional armor if you should ever wheel it. You can usually get them for $200+ (depending on the brand)

I went with stainless steel running boards I bought from my dealer he discounted them and installed them for me. They bolt up easily. I have had them on previous Tundras I have owned and never had a rust issue. (We don't really have a big road salt issue here in NC)

I did not want to go the welded running board route for a number of reasons, primarily they are pretty permanent when welded. The I had installed also help protect your truck from parking lot door dings occurring by people driving hoopty's that don't give a dam when or where they throw there doors open.

    FWIW...Hope this helps.

These are the same s/s running boards that I have. 45 minute install taking your time.
I can easily stand on the running board when washing the roof of my truck or front w/s.

Thewe polished stainless steel boards have held up great on previous Tundras I have owned. There are lots of choices out there. These are what worked for me over the years. You will probably find this link price a lot cheaper than your dealer will sell them for.

    Hope this helps brother!

MotoTundra- you can usually find 303 Protectorant where they sell boats. It's used all the time to keep interiors on boats looking new. A great UV protector. You can also get it drop shipped to your door if you order on Amazon. The best price I found was $50.00 a gallon. You can buy smaller quantities. A gallon lasts a long time for me and I have three vehicles. I use a spongy polish pad to apply and it goes a long way.
    Hope this helps.

I picked them up used on craigslist and got a good deal, I forget what I paid but it was worth it.
I bought these boards used and they have already been kissed by the sun, OK, faded a bit. Is it still worth using?

There are a lot of nice ones out there. I really like the OEM boards on my 2010. If you're more of an OEM type, I think you will like them. I can't remember the price I paid, but it was much less that list. I called my dealer parts department and gave him an opportunity to match the best net price I found and he did. They are holding up well and with a wife & family I wouldn't run without boards.

I have Toyota brushed stainless step bars on my truck. It was dealer installed and has been on for close to 5 years (went through 4 severe PA winters (I live near the lake so we get a lot of snow). Still holding up great. Also I found out that they are stronger than Honda Civic. :D
