Here is my setup for now. 2017 Travel Lite 690FD. Used it on a Tacoma and hauled a side by side behind. Upgraded to a bigger truck to handle the load better and now debating a travel trailer as we have 2 dogs now and never camp with the side by side as they don't come on the bike with us.

I am looking at a Grand Design Imagine XLS 20BHE, 21BHE, or 23BHE. Also looked at Winnebago Micro Minnie 2100BH, but I think I like the Grand Design models a little more.

Grand Design appears to be a little bit on the higher end of quality. Any thoughts?

We bought the GD Imagine XLS 22RBE last fall and only used it once before winterizing. This is our first TT so I can't compare quality. We just really liked the GD floorplans and features.

Edit: GD is now owned by Winnebago but the founders, who previously worked for Keystone, still run the company.

How do you think it ties? Handles it pretty easily? I weighed my truck with me in it and it weighed 6,440 lbs. Only leaves 760 of tongue weight left. I have heard the tongue weights advertised are pretty light as they do not include batteries and propane. Even the smaller travel trailers around 4,500 pounds are 600 or so. I do not have any room for passengers in the truck pulling a 20ft. Trailer....

with all that being said, just curious of how it handles it.

We have a 2006 Coleman/Fleetwood Utah popup. We went tent camping and got flooded. With kids, you can only imagine the amount of mud that made it inside the tent.....never again...lol.

I weighed my truck with with two passengers (~300 lbs), loaded trailer attached, ~250 lbs of gear in the bed, 3/4 tank of gas, and it was right at 7,200, which is my GVWR. So if I had the 38 gal tank full I would have been slightly over. I'll need to store more gear in the trailer instead of the bed. My PL is 1,100 lbs.

We pulled it about 200 miles to Eureka Springs, AR last October and it did great. No issues at all with the hills. I ran it in S5 on the interstate and S4 on the state roads, both in tow mode. I still want to tinker with the WDH to see if I can eliminate some front to back rocking. Curiously, when I tow it short distances without the WDH bars, I get almost none of the rocking. It could have been the absence of weight in the bed though.

Edit: one of the reasons I selected this model was the TW was pretty light for it's size. Its about 550-600 lbs loaded.

A bit off topic, but what kind of kayak is that? I'm looking for more active hobbies this summer, and a kayak on the lake sounds like a good time to me. I'd appreciate any details you can give on the boat and how you haul it.

I'm eyeing the R-pod trailers myself. What made you go with the Micro Minnie over the R-pod? Purely curious at this piont. A TT is years out for me.

That thing looks adorable and awesome at the same time. I've never seen a small 5th wheel like that. Would you mind sharing some interior shots? Curious about the layout in it.

It was a bit on the small size for a family of four. The wife didn't like the idea of converting the dinette into a bed each night and the bathroom was a bit small. It was the right decision for us, as we now have a dog and things get tight sometimes with the (larger) Minnie.

Towing an Imagine 2670MK with an Equalizer 4 point WDH. Just returned from 1500 mile trip through Appalachian Mountains to Georgia coast. The Tundra did a fine job. Installed Roadmaster Active Suspension prior to trip and thought it improved porpoising and helped damp what little sway I had before install.Tundra & GD 2670MK.jpg

we have two kayaks and they are both perception pescadors. Mine is the 12.0 and my wife’s is the 10.0. They are great little boats, stable and track straight. They don’t weigh too much and are in the middle of the price range amongst kayaks.

The rack is homemade. I designed it to fit both boats and still clear the trailer.

After taking a tour of the Oliver Travel Trailer manufacturing facility in Hohenwald, Tennessee last January, we ordered a four seasons 2020 Oliver Legacy Elite ll Travel Trailer. Oliver is a small company and really does an amazing job hand crafting all fiberglass over engineered high quality travel trailers. Our build date is scheduled for mid March with a delivery in mid May. The 2-3 hr factory tour is really cool and absolutely well worth a look at how Oliver’s are crafted. A few factory photos.

Looking forward to traveling and see this great country of ours.
