Furnace turns on for a minute, shuts off for a minute, then comes back on and does it’s job?

Anybody know what’s going on? Natural gas, forced air furnace (Rheem). I’ve had furnaces short cycle and that seemed erratic and during the whole heating cycle. This happens every time the heat kicks on and has since I switched from AC to Heat back in October...on for a minute, then just quietly shuts off, and is then back on a minute later and will run it’s entirety without ever shutting off again. wife still sometimes complains of a slight burning smell when the air comes from the vents, which, in past years, seemed to go away after just a few days of running the furnace for the first time in the fall.
    Anybody got an idea?

Normally there should be an led power indicator light on the furnace (not sure if your has one). The light will blink with a code you can look up in the owners manual. Sometimes they overheat, or an exhaust blockage etc. check it out and let us know.

Don’t be offended but have to ask..... sure it’s not the draft inducer? A minute means different things sometimes. If the minute between the first fan noise and the second fan noise is only seconds it’s probably the inducer cycle.

Was just about to suggest this. I know nothing about furnaces, other than my furnace has stopped working 2 times in the 18 years I’ve live here and both times were solved by me doing this.

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
It is normal. Newer gas furnaces require a minute to clear fresh air into its intake to guarantee a good burn, meaning the system doesn't want stale air with little oxygen left from last cycle, so it purges the air to get fresh stuff, then the heat cycle starts.

    Its all normal....

It is throwing a code, 3 blinks which indicates a “limit control problem” (3min 30sec. after turning heat on).

Here’s what happens when I time everything:

Turn heat on: immediately the furnace begins to work, the draft inducer comes on, after 30 sec. the flames turn on.

1 min.: blower comes on and heat is coming from vents in house.

3 min 30 Sec. (since turned heat on)(house has been heating for 2:30 now): 3 flashes on the control board which indicates a limit sensor problem. Flames immediately go out, a blower is running, but nothing is coming from vents.

Continues like this for 3 min.

7 min. (since turned heat on): burners turn on again, a minute later I have warm air running through my vents indefinitely and it will run perfect until temp reached.

it’s taken about 8min 30sec to finally get a steady stream of hot air that will now run flawlessly until desired temp reached. After it does it’s bs for 8:30, it will run flawlessly for hours if needed and never fault. But once it restarts an hour later to heat again, the fault is there, every single time.

    Here’s the diagnosis on furnace:

guess I’ll clean what I can and hope this works...
