    Hello everyone,

I had my eyes set on a TRD Pro ever since I saw the bad ass look and especially since they added seat warmers and dual climate for the 2020. Been shopping around and doesn't seem like dealers are moving much from MSRP here in california, but I see there are nice discounts on the Platinum model. If you could do it over again, would you still pick the 2020 TRD Pro over a platinum? The upgraded leather, seat adjustments, heated/ventilated seats and additional creature comforts in the platinum would definitely make daily driving much more enjoyable. Hoping to hear your opinions, Thanks!

I picked the 2019 TRD Pro over a platinum because the damn thing rides smoother than a Cadillac out on the road. That’s just me though.

Given my build, I would go Platinum and then upgrade the parts to be better than the Pro. Get the best of both.

If you plan on modifying the suspension, wheels, tires, etc, I would go Platinum. The Pro price tag mainly comes from the suspension and a small part due to the wheels. If you just want to get something that's fully capable and leave it "stock," then the Pro.

I opted for SR5 as well. I don't like financing for accessories and options that I can buy cash and install myself. I'm frugal, (cheap). ;)

Drove the TRD Pro today WOW, it rides so smooth compared to the platinum. But the exhaust is way too loud for me, which is a funny thing to say because my current daily driver is a catless straightpiped 6.2L V8. Love the TRD Pro but i prefer the comfort of the platinum. Definitely will look into upgrading the suspension or whatever I need to do to make it ride smoother. Will also look to get the forged trd pro wheels and different steps.

I am from the old school of buy the "most" truck you can afford for the price.

When I got my Tundra, there was no such thing as a TRD Pro. Like others have said, you can add shocks, lift, tires, etc. and have all the creature comforts of the high end Tundra.

    Just my opinion.

For me it was a No-Brainer, PRO all the way. I don't require all the bells & whistles, much prefer the ride quality. Plus I'm an old time hard core off-roader at heart. The TRD PRO just fits me better. But I will agree with the OP about the exhaust note being a little bit too loud. Maybe I'm just use to the boring whine of my Tacoma's 3.5L V6. But it does feel like I'm actually driving a TRUCK again.

“One of the greatest temptations in life is to settle for second best.”

Ideally, Toyota would pull their heads out of the butt and build a TRD Pro Platinum.

I got the platinum with the added safety and comfort features, and then added all the TRD Pro components except for the exhaust (Borla.)

I’m surprised that so many dislike the exhaust. I kinda wish it was a little louder.

I just bought a 2020 1794 TRD OR exactly one month ago. Creature comforts plus cheaper to add better suspension than a PRO was a no brainer. BUT last week we bought my wife a 2020 4runner TRD OR Premium and that will be the vehicle we are going to dump the money into for mods. I've got Bilstein 6112 and 5160 for my Tundra I just have to deside on what to do with the rear to keep the TSS happy and then decide on tire size with factory wheels.

Platinum and make it better than a pro... easy to do and a better all around truck (especially towing, assuming you don’t go Lt)

I don't mean to make it sound like the exhaust note is TOO loud, just more than I'm use to. It does sound really good. But being use to the Tacoma it is quite a bit louder. Beautiful growl, they got that right.

They need to make that platinum pro....I was faced with the same choice between a 2020 platinum and 2019 pro...although my choice was a bit easier as the wife pretty much said get Voodoo Blue or don't bother. It was really a tough choice and I struggled with it for sure....If they made the 2020 pro in voodoo blue...I would probably still be thinking about it. Ultimately I decided to go with a 2020 platinum...mainly for the added creature comforts and safety features...since my wife will drive it as much as I do...and probably more. I ended up getting a great price and am really happy so far. I have had the truck for 4 days...the wife has driven it more than I have. By Sunday night I had already placed two orders for mods....here we go again....

Just saying it out loud but i'd buy a 1794 TRD Pro if such a thing existed. In my opinion the extras on the Pro aren't enough to make it it's own trim level. Now if it came supercharged from the factory or had a bigger engine sure ... but it doesn't. You get SR5 seats with leather and some fancy stitching, reservoir shocks and a stamped bed. Sounds like an option package to me that Toyota could make some serious $$ on. Now just imagine again if it did have a bigger engine or a supercharged 5.7!!

I can respect that ... but i'm over the whole black leather thing myself though so the 1794 was the only choice. I think the saddle brown interior with MGM exterior is a killer combo (white exterior would probably be my next pick). I had a BMW 535xi a few years ago that was almost MGM exterior color with the dark mocha leather ... the combo looked fantastic!

I like the Hickory seat color in the Limited Tacoma & 4Runner. The contrast is sweet. Wish they would do that in the Tundra.

I too was in that exact same predicament, I loved the way the pro looked and drove, but I need my creature comforts. As others have said above you can replace the suspension and wheels and have the best of both worlds. Might even look for a 2018 or 2019 platinum to have a little extra coin to pay for those upgrades, unless your really stuck on that push start ignition. It’s the same truck.

I don't go off road enough to justify the lack of creature features and benefits of the Pro. I bought the 4X4 Platinum, added both TRD sway bars and haven't looked back at all. The truck rides so smooth and non wobbly now. I actually complain to myself about the exhaust being too loud in the Platinum at 1800-3000 RPM. I can't imagine the Pro exhaust. The only time I want to hear my exhaust is when I'm in my GSF. A whole different symphony coming from that exhaust.

First, Merry Christmas! Long time follower here - haven’t posted much. I sold my MGM Platinum Tundra about 16 months ago and have regretted it since. I have the means to acquire another one but find myself in this debate of Platinum vs Pro. I was set on a Pro but have been thinking that I would appreciate the few options and comforts a Platinum offers. I think I can get one for about 8k or 9k cheaper given zero discounts on the Pro but curious to the following: if I get a platinum, I would probably mod it to the pro (exhaust, fox shocks, wheels, etc). I am curious if I will actually save more money as the TRD pro suspension will probably cost me 4K or so and new exhaust and wheels / tires could cost me another 3k. At that point, I am close to a Pro cost. Am I costing this too high or about right? The truck would serve as a daily driver but also will take it off-road so definitely want it to have good tires, suspension for off-road. However, it will be more of a daily driver. I work in Atlanta so.....need to cognizant of lifts, etc as some of the parking garages have a maximum height of 6’6” or little higher. I have another vehicle as well so that isn’t a big deal. I keep hearing about resale value of the Pro but honestly in my research it isn’t too far off and given the V8 may be a thing of the past I think resale will be excellent given either direction. I have never really modded a truck so appreciate what type of budget you think I should have given above for wheels, tires, exhaust, suspension, etc. Thank you and Merry Christmas again!
