Hi everyone, sorry about this post but i have to.

I would love to love this truck but i can't. Here is the story: Just purchased a new CM 2020 TRD off-road premium in November 22 with 3.75 miles on it.

I was confident in the product quality and built so i didn't even made a road test with it.

I started notice a real bad knocking noise as outside temperature was going down. Mileage at that time was 1600 km. Actually it's so hard that it is scarring and really embarrassing. Just sound like an replacement engine is needed. At start up, at -10c and fast idle no noise but the noise is building up as engine temp going up. Noise is getting lower as engine temp goes up.
as long as outside temp is around 0c noise is still there, but noticed that if i'm leaving the car running in the garage noise will finally almost go away. I've change oil grade already it do help a bit.

By reading posts i can see that this is a known problem, but also not enough publicized
so i would be able to catch it before the purchase.

I know that it can be frustrating for Toyota owners and me to criticized a company that we put our hart and trust in it, but this is the only way that they can know and correct faulty design or product.

Would i like to have a replaced short block in it absolutely not, but i can't stand this noise either. So, i just can't do nothing about it. Thank God i leased it, but i have to endure it an other 62 months and yes i can tell that this is my last Toyota.

A tundra TRD is actually an SR5 with 4 Bilstein shock and 2 stickers. At 65K taxes included it's overpriced.

In an other way, i don't understand where Toyota is going with their vehicle line up.

The new Yaris is a Mazda, the FRS is a Subaru an the Supra is BMW.

But that is an other story ;)

    Thanks

62 month lease? Wow, never knew they went out that far on a lease....thats purchase loan timeframe.

"A tundra TRD is actually an SR5 with 4 Bilstein shock and 2 stickers. Did you not research packages and options prior to picking it up? If you did, I bet you would have realized that prior to and probably had decided to just go with the SR5 instead if now having a perceived remorse.

In any case, welcome to the forum.

Hopefully that 65K is Canadian money which would be, $49,439.06. Which I am assuming because he mentioned kilometers.

Do you think the OP is talking about the giant noisy valves in the 5.7? Big engines make some noise, lol. Maybe he never had a VVT V8 before? Any v8 I have ever owned, has made a tick, a tock, a click, or a clack. If you want quiet, they DO make a prius...
    https://youtu.be/B9K4N328OI8
If the noise is annoying, take the radio, and jam it...

He mentioned $65k tundra, which i assume is TRD Pro. Just saying no Tundra is worth 65. Msrp on 1794 is $50k, same goes for Trd Pro :)

Because OP talks C and KM, I am assuming he is located in Canada. So the 65k canadian is 49k US. He also notes taxes included which puts vehicle price higher end of mid 40s.

So does that also mean that the 62 month lease is more like a 48 month lease?

More infos: 65K is 56,500$ cad + 5% + 9.5% taxes, price of truck may be higher here in Canada. The lease option is 64 months. It is for sure a knocking noise not a ticking. Yes there is the warranty, but like i always said. Less the car is going to the dealer, better i'm am.

For the audio file, it's recorded on my phone with an app and i don't know on to upload it here.

    Regards,

If it is a knock, there is a chance some rotten vandal dumped water in the fuel to be a dick, or someone left the gas cap off and went through the drive through car wash, when prepping it. The first thing OP should do is visit the dealer, the sooner the more likely the issue will be rectified in a positive manner. Maybe the kid they have washing the cars at the dealer wanted to clean the filler cap with the pressure washer? That will make any brand engine knock.

I had piston slap on my 2002 GM 8.1, but it was for 30 sec or so at start up. After that, it was quiet as wondering if it was running. With the tundra, the sound is there as long as it can built enough heat. With temperature around or under 0 celcius it is always there.
