:itllbuffout: Hit black ice this morning, nothing I could do, right into a metal light pole. No one got hurt, #1, I'm ok#2, but all that dam work I put into my baby. :frusty: Well, I'm not going through the work finding a new cab and doing that work in the winter, so I guess It's time to say good buy Zombie. :( So looking for a new Tundra, already getting the jiggers, it's like a drug. :bowdown:Looking to go either with 2005-2006,4x4 this time, but I did find a better priced 2007. Has the 4.7 and it's 4x4. Black is a plus for me, and since the wife has her input, she likes it better. Let me know your thoughts. The first Gen is hard one to beat, best truck I ever had, but I'll weigh out the plus and minuses and see what happens. The only other deal I see is a 2006 TRD, but it's white. Both under 8k. Color is not the main driving force, reliability, comfort, ride quality first. So for now...... no injuries.

    Stick with the first gen.
Sorry about your truck always tough to see them go.
4.7 in the 2and gen is a great motor and those are the ones lasting 1million miles but they are BIG trucks and I would hate to make that little 284 try and move the larger frame and cab around. 1st gen tundra is a perfect size and 05/06 is the best year by far (esp 05)

    It's a Tundra, that'll buff right out.

Seriously, though, I'm glad you're all OK.

If you go 07, get the 5.7L. Youll want the extra power in the bigger tundra.

I test drove a 2003, 2007, and ended up buying a 2006. I really couldn't tell a difference in performance during the test drives, 0-60 from a stoplight, merging onto a highway, or mashing the peddle from 60mph to 85mph to make sure I could get away from an 18 wheeler if needed. I'm sure others have a calibrated seat of the pants meter to be able to distinguish a 10hp difference, but I couldn't.

The 2007 is only 500lbs heavier than a 2006. Put another way, a 2007 specs the same as my 2006 when I drive my mother-in-law around town.

If you go 2005-2006 don't forget about the smog pumps, Hewitt kit is highly recommended. Also, the $800 master cylinder specific to 05-06 has been discussed in this forum as well.

I think the 2nd gens have and odd look and sheet metal, but also see the positives of less frame issues, and if you really want power the 5.7 is there as well.

    Good luck.

Yea was more saying if you get a 2nd gen just get the 5.7. It moves the larger truck around very easily. And the mpg loss isnt that bad. My 2004 non vvti 4SPD got 13mpg on 33s. My 2010 on 33s gets 15.5mpg and has 136hp more.

Sorry to hear that....to me the ONLY reason to get a 2nd gen is for the 5.7...(or if you need a back seat big enough to hold an orgy then a 2nd/3rd gen crewmax is better)...so I wouldn't get a 4.7 2nd Gen...it would have to be a 4.6 or 5.7. Anyway you decide to go, good luck!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. It sucks when stuff like this happens. Sometimes you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I have thought recently again about what I would buy if I wanted to sell my truck. I'm stuck with a 3rd gen double cab with the 5.7 or a pre 2016 Titan. The real issue that might kill my long term love with the first gen is the lack of power. It scoots fine with factory tires, but bigger tires I don't even know that gears will make it scoot like I want. I also don't know that I want to start down the turbo road. I guess you never know with me haha.
Good luck on your journey and hope you make out alright.

Gears definitely do help. I'm running 35s with 4.88 gears. I only drove my truck a few miles with the 35s before regearing. I can tell you I would not have been happy with the lack of power had I not regeared.

Damn, sorry to see, but glad you’re OK. Hopefully your not too sore in a day or three.

And if you’re looking 2nd gen, I agree, 5.7 / 6spd auto > 4.7 / 5 spd auto. Fuel economy isn’t much different between the two, the double overdrive in the 6A helps.

Damn man. Sorry this happened. Black ice is a scary thing to encounter.

I had my truck sideways about two months ago before buying new tires by the house. I was coughing up seat foam for a week.

The 4.7 in the 2nd gens is identical to the 05-06 tundras. Best to buy a 05-06 tundra, you get the 1st gen body with the million mile vvti engine and 5 speed

The thought of a second Gen was because I saw one in nice shape for 8k. Has the 4.7, all I need and is more reliable than the 5.7. Forget the 4.6. I like the look better, but that's it. So looking at some 2005's, small dealership has 4 of them all 2005's 1 is red (not) and the other 3 are blue. Very nice condition. He also has a 2008, didn't ask the price, but all the 2005's are going for 9k. I would be happy with a 2005, just would put a pushbar up front and some bling, and then the first gens can look good. I had those light covers, they stayed on the headlights in the accident.....but obviously the headlights didn't stay in the vehicle. Well I bought this as a work truck, never thought I'd get to a point of Love, alot of work went into it, but still looked like a work truck. Now It's time for something nice. For now It hides behind the 23' foot........and it could tow this 9,000lb monster. Not sure yet what to to do with it. Still runs great. I do have some back pain, but that's sorta preexisting. The medic was strongly suggesting I go to the hospital. Not this tuff Irishman. He was like look at your truck, I've had no one walk away and deny a hospital before from something like that. I told him I'm not normal.....my wife is there and of course has to agree. I lied to them saying I had my seat belt on, but it's no joke, I will be wearing it even if I'm going 30mph. Top speed here is a stretch that's 45mph, mostly it's 25mph. I wear it on the hi-way. After getting thrown around in my truck at 30-35 mph, and that moment I thought I was going to roll it, it was up on 2 tires vertical. Yep, time to stop being ignorant and wear my belt. So they have have these light poles with sheer bolts on them, but this huge concrete pedestal that stick up fairly hi, that's what really F$%# things up.

Decided to go second Gen. 4.7 and 4x4. for $12k. All the nice first gens are $9k and nothing is close to me. Not many second gens around this price and no 2nd gens close either. This was just a half hour away. Plus it's all I wanted in a truck, sacrificed nothing. TRD would of been nice, but I can live without that. Search is over. Picking up Monday, getting fresh inspection and cleaned. I wish I had more time to think about it, but this other guy was drooling over it, and wife told me to tell him sold. We have both searched within 100 miles, not easy finding a Tundra. (one to your exact liking of course) So she likes it and that's a plus. Plus I'm gettin to old for fixer uppers. PARTS anyone!!!
