So I have some future plans for the truck that I would like to get some input on. I'd like to start buying the parts now, even though I won't install for a while because this is going to be an expensive process. I'm going to keep the stock tires that came with the truck until they wear out as I see no reason to throw out perfectly good tires, but once those do wear out, I'd like to upgrade to either 35s or 37s and downgrade the rim size from 20 to 18 or 17.

I would also like to upgrade the suspension. Probably going to go with an icon setup with icon UCAs. I would to also keep my rake so I can maintain the safety sense features.

Since I'll be going up to a 35 or 37, I would also like to re-gear the truck. My biggest concern with this whole process is, I know that upgrading to 35 or 37 inch tires will require the body mount chop. I just don't know any shops around here that I would trust to do it.

Can anyone in eastern ohio or western pa give some input on a shop they would recommend or had similar or the same work done? I don't mind driving a couple of hours to get this done, especially for someone who is familiar with the tundra and what needs to be done both for a re-gear and suspension upgrades.
Are dealerships able to do this?

This is going to be a big and costly process, so I'd like to start buying the parts now so when the time comes and my current tires are done, I will have everything I need without having to go out and spend a huge chunk of money at one time.

Exciting plans for you!! Should look good once finished!

Time to start a build thread, or at least take lots of pics for it once installs happen.

Yeah I'll definitely be taking a lot pictures. I've been too lazy to start a build thread as I've already done a lot of stuff to the truck. I'll probably have time this weekend to whip one up. I'm really excited to get the suspension upgraded and give the truck that better stance with some nice black wheels. I get jealous when I see a lifted tundra with nice big offroad wheels lol.

But biggest thing is you’ll be better of with a whole new suspension setup. Even if you Offroad on occasion you won’t have to worry about using it to full potential.

I haven't done one, but it looks like if you can run a grinder, you can do a CMC. (I grind and weld at work, so I'm not talking out my butt here haha). I've seen a handful of pictures of the process on here. Buy the plates, and take your time and carefully grind your tires to fit. Then make sure the plate shape fits to cover the cab mount hole. I'm sure a local weld or exhaust shop wouldn't charge much to weld them up. Grind smooth and paint. If you are an M.E. I would trust you have the knowledge to learn it, even if you have minimal hands on experience.

I agree. I'm not completely committed to getting icons at this point either. I've just done some research and am leaning that way currently. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm open to them. I will do some offroading with it for sure. Would love to get a RTT and start camping with it.

Have you decided on a bed rack for the RTT?? I’m very happy with @KB Voodoo 18” rack! Very solid and great quality! And I can give tips on install!

Yeah I'm sure if I watched a couple videos and learned the process, it wouldn't be bad. I've done everything up to this point on my truck. I'm one of those people, if I watch a video or read the instructions, even if it takes me a little longer, I can figure it out. You can actually buy the plates for the chop, a lot of different vendors make them. I'm not a welder though, so i'd feel more comfortable paying a pro to do it. I know I could handle changing out the suspension. My real concern is finding someone who is able to do the re-gear.

I have not, but I have a diamondback HD installed, so I need something that can mount to that. Idk if you've ever watched his videos, but the LLOD (last line of defense) on youtube has a great setup for his tacoma with the diamondback. I'll probably do something similar to that and just mount rails directly to the tonneau cover.

I believe that KB has an adapter for a tonneau, but you may loose water proofing quality in the Diamondback...so just depends how big that is for you to keep.

I also have a nice set of yakima baseline racks that came off of my civic, I would just need to buy new clips for it and it would be good to go on the tundra, so that's another option if I want to put it on the cab. I can probably find a way to mount them to the diamondback as well. I might as well use them because they weren't cheap and I know i'm never gonna sell them on craigslist or anything.

Im sure if you drill through and put some marine goup around the holes on the inside, you could keep it waterproof, not really the biggest deal though. I just keep my gym bag and shoes in there now so i don't stink up the cab lol. My bed will definitely get a lot more use once the warm weather comes and i can throw my fishing kayak in the bed and take off. I had the kayak on racks on my civic and it was a 15-20 minute process getting the attachments on the racks and putting it up there. I can't even begin to explain how happy I'll be when i can just throw it in the bed and strap it down.

I won't use the racks for the kayak, I'll just throw it in the bed. My fishing kayak is 12-1/2 feet long, so it will stick out a good bit, yakima makes a nice bed extender that will extend about 4 feet beyond the bed. I think that will be the quickest and easiest way to transport it. Too bad I live in Ohio, I wish I could use it all year haha.

It's Ohio, I was out in a T shirt the other day. Now it's 30 degrees. Tomorrow probably 10 degrees and the next day 50. Keep your kayak use options open lol

Lol I was in shorts and t shirt in the middle of December laying in the driveway putting my BAM 8" on. Ohio is one hell of a place to live. You can have 4 seasons in 1 day.

You are correct, our Tonneau Brackets will work with Diamondback covers.

The gasket on the cover is pretty decent, and it will conform around our bracket s and make a good seal.

That is on a Tacoma, so you'd need to look for the one for the Tundra.

Found it. That is definitely an option. I really like that you can use it without modifying the DB cover at all. Really nice.

I live in Va. Beach, we have quite a few Do It Yourself garages here.(They have two and four post lifts, plus tools and specialty tools that you would need) There is so much info here and on YouTube for you to do all of this work yourself. If you have time you may wanna give it a shot. Lotta pride, less money. Good luck.

Good luck. My friend is running 35's on his Tundra with no regear and it pulls just fine still. I wouldn't do it if I went up. Truck has plenty of torque.

You are a mechanical engineer and you are STILL going to do a CMC? I understand why the cab mount is built the way it is and personally, from an engineering standpoint, would never cut it. I care too much about the safety of my passengers versus the looks of the truck.
    Again, good luck!

If the CMC includes welding in a new plate, then what exactly changes from a safety perspective? How does this change if sliders are mounted to the frame? Thanks!

Keeps the mass of your tire and wheel from intruding into the cabin on the event of a crash, say you hit a pole at about your headlight at 50 mph. Take a look at any offset crash test. Watch the wheel and tire. The cab mount deflects the wheel and tire and brake caliper downward.
In reality, the wheel and tire and brake caliper stop and the cab continues into it.
In addition, the mounts are not mild steel. They are ultra high strength alloy that requires special process to form. Might as well not add a patch for all the good it will do. Now, the chances of that type of accident happening to you or me is slim, but my wife and children ride in the passenger seat sometimes. I am not going ro defeat a safety feature, especially for looks, and take a chance.

Thanks for the explanation....I think I'll pick an offset and tire size that don't require a CMC.

Good luck bud. I will say, when I put that much more rubber on the road, I was unhappy with the performance afterwards. The S&B intake made a world of difference once I got it in. Link here https://www.sbfilters.com/cold-air-intakes/toyata-tundra-5-7l-07-12-intake-kit-75-5039?variant_id=81

I also had to put in spacers since I had to use my stock TRD rims, as well as carve out a bit of the front bumper. If you want some pics, lemme know.

I have methods double standard with 25 offset on order lol. No mods. Those engineers are better than me with respect to vehicle design.

What size tire are you going to run without any suspension mods?

Stock size on 18's. The wheels will widen the stance over an inch per side plus the wheels are an inch wider, so it will be a total of an inch and a half per side. Any upsize will require some mod, like removing mudflap, bending/trimming plastic etc. I am fine with stock size and ride. Plus I get around 18 mpg on interstate now!
