Looking to possibly upgrade air intake system. Has anyone on here upgraded theirs and what did you use? Happy or no?

Honestly, one of the most talked about subjects on here besides what oil you are using.

General Consensus is not worth it, but some have some money to spend and likes working on their rig. I had the TRD intake and took it off last week. I noticed no difference. At first I thought I picked up .2 miles or so but no gains on anything. Made the engine sound a little different or louder. Some people say they get a loud whistle from some intakes.

on Toyota's, the stock is about as good as any OEM.

I did a SABM (stock air box mod) with k&n drop in filter. Quite happy, it sound good and cheap to do, I had all the part from my tuner day laying around.

I installed Airaid cold air intake, wife says it’s too loud( I think same). Just got TRD air intake delivered, hoping to install this weekend.

@Hbjeff , 1 loud exhaust will drown out the other 2 noise issues. ☆

I’m running the TRD. Pretty much the only I take I can install in CA. Love the sound. Didn’t notice much gain but it looks awesome and sounds good. Also come with reusable filter so there’s that. It looks just like a KN filter but it’s toyota. I also loved the plug and play aspect. Toyota makes it so it fits perfectly and easily.

It's a waste of money unless you are also freeing up the exhaust side.

I replaced my factory cat-back with a free flowing BAMuffler cat-back, so it made sense to replace my OEM paper filter with a drop in free flowing AFE filter. The factory cold air intake works, so I continue to use it.

Spend your money on something with some benefit. People mention looks but it is under the hood and no one sees it but you and your mechanic.

Originally my truck came with TRD air filter element. Replaced it with Airaid, it was loud, sounded cool, but after a while it got annoying. Then i bought a TRD air Intake. The bottom part is same as non TRD, installed it, pretty quiet, didnt notice much different sound wheni had oem installed.

You'll pretty much only notice the difference in hard pulls. Being as young as I am and having the friends I do, one of the first things I did with the truck was see how long it takes to get to 100mph from 70mph. Pretty quick stock but noticeably quicker and throatier after I put on my S&B. Then about a month later I got the 6" system from BAMuffler and it made a significant difference in the mid range pairing the intake with the more open exhaust. My torque converter rarely unlocks now while I'm going 75mph on I91 which is a blessing because the stretch of I91 I take for work everyday consists of some pretty big hills and hardly any flats. When I was stock it would unlock going up those hills every time. In the end its up to you, if you got $300 just burning a hole in your pocket or just have the itch to buy something for your truck then a CAI is a good place to start.

Running the TRD CAI with TRD exhaust, plus the Harrop. They all make great noise :rockband:20200117_153624.jpg
