Hey guys, so ive been dealing with this noise, see video below, since 600 plus miles, been to the dealership 3 times now. The first time they lubricated the pads, the second time they machined the rear rotors, this time the truck is sitting at the dealership and they cant figure it out, supposedly i was told by my service advisor that someone from Toyota is coming to look at the noise because they can't figure it out. It seems like a break rotor issue to me, but these folks are scaring me because they cant figure it out which leads me to believe it might not be as simple as i thought. It is a 2019 Tundra 4.6 CrewMax 2 wheel drive.

    Any thoughts????

My first thought is that the brake dust shield is bent and rubbing on the rotor.

Whatever it is shouldn’t be hard to track down making noises like that.

This noise only happens when the breaks are applied, if the truck comes to a rolling stop, no noise.

The dealership couldn't figure this out? If it were mine i would pull the caliper and run it (on jack stands) to see if the noise disappears, then check the shields. You can see the caliper dancing around, which also could mean a bent axle or warped rotor as others have said. Good luck.

:notsure:One of the pads in backwards??

Am I seeing the caliper wobble around with the warped rotor or axle?

Good catch, totally missed that watching the first time on my phone.

That rotor has some serious run-out, caused by either the rotor itself or the axle shaft. Since the rotor was supposed to have been machined, it doesn’t look good for the axle shaft.

Exactly how mine started out, had it in 5 times for brakes then the sixth time they checked the axle specs. I hope it’s not that

The dealership has all the videos, i have a few more too that i turned in to them. On the bright side, if there is one, the dealership seems to be trying and they aren't just blowing me off.

Thats a noise i would for sure have noticed when test driving the truck before purchase.Could be a piece of gravel stuck between brake pads and caliper

Yes i agree, on the day i test drove it was about 20 degrees and windy as hell. Also, the noise can't be heard inside the cab, only of your windows are down.

Was the noise the only thing yours had? What other symptoms?, mine has no shaking, no wobbling, nothing while driving, the only time it does it is when the breaks are applied. Uou can't hear anythi g inside the can, only when the windows are down.

I had the same exact issue with my 19 Pro. It was the rear axle. The dealership replaced it. I had to bring it in for several visits before they figured out what the issue is.

Mine is still at the dealership they've had it all week and they can't figure it out they have sent all the videos to the Toyota field rep and I am beyond frustrated about it. I noticed mine at 600 miles. Did they replace the rear end or jusy axle shafts? I would think this would compromise the differential in the longrun, but i could be wrong.

Bro i was in your boat in terms of frustration but im sure Toyota will make it up to you.
When i got my new Limited in 2014 i had rear main seal leaking oil on my driveway and they had to drop my transmission to replace the seal when i had less than 1k on the odometer.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
That is exactly what mine does. It didn't always do this either. It only makes the noise when I first apply the brakes. So maybe I bent the axle shaft at one point overloading it?

Hallelujah!!!!!! Dealer just called, both axles are bent, they are replacing both axels, bearings, brakes, rotors, etc..... finally some answers. They are waiting for Toyota to approve everything and they will order parts. I hope this is the end of the ordeal with this NEW truck.

I wonder if this is a manufacturing issue (either machining or material defect) or a damage in shipping issue.

Either way, replacing an axle shaft or two isn’t rocket surgery, and shouldn’t result in any long-term issues. The differential won’t be affected, and good to hear your’re getting new rotors etc.
