Unpainted bumper ends on MGM? Powder coat over chrome?

    Hey fellas,

I am looking to ditch my chrome bumper ends... the final chrome on my truck. Getting the unpainted ends and having them painted seems pretty steep in price. I was think of either just leaving them unpainted in the matte black, or having someone local powder coat the chrome.

Anyone have the unpainted on a Magnetic Grey Metallic truck? Or have good experience getting the chromes powder coated?

    Thanks!
    Jim

I have a cement Tundra and am trying to figure this out as well. I have both front and rear bumpers to consider. Seems like the sandblast paint option for both will run into the $500-$600s. Same with powder coating. Not to mention having to remove them myself which isn't hard but time consuming. I have gone back and forth but think I am going to eventually bite the bullet and go to Sparks Toyota website and order the painted bumper caps. I feel overall, time and money it's the best option for me. They just go right over the existing chrome. But they aren't cheap either.

That's awesome. Really like the cement color but color matching is not easy. Your truck looks sick.

That’s true forgot some colors are pretty hard to get right. And thank you. Powder coat would be my next option. Unless you can find a good deal on some take offs from someone who put a off-road bumper on or something. Watch eBay and facebook groups I see them pop up from time to time

There was a guy here making stick on painted bumper caps to. Idk the price but would save you from taking the truck apart

I got my front chrome bumper caps powder coated for $100 for both!!! Did a pretty good job. The color is super white 040. Not an identical match but pretty damn close.

powder coating is always better for longevity and durability vs paint/wrap.

unfortunately no pics at the moment. I will post some later.

Are you sure they offer something like that? I was just reading his mega thread and they don't sells the ends painted any longer.

Also, I talked to a powder coating company and their over the phone guess was 30-50 per part. Doesn't seem too bad.

I have not gone to a powder coater yet, but my biggest concern would be color match. Seems like some colors are easier to match than others.

I had my chrome ones painted, the shop that did them told me theres some kind of treatment you do over the chrome before paint and prep. I assume its probably some kind of acid. I have had it done for about 3 months now, everything is still holding good, rock chips will be the thing to get to it though. I took the mirrors, chrome headlight pieces, hood piece, grill, and the whole front bumper off myself, and took it all to the shop that did it for me along with the quart of paint, the total bill for everything was $400

Bumpershellz from Ecoological. Got mine in unpainted ABS plastic and had them painted at a shop. Looks factory and attach by preinstalled 3m tape behind the cover. Cheapest option as I intend to get a Nfab or C4 bumper by end of the year.

The best way In my opinion is to remove your chrome ones , have them sandblasted and paint to match. Stick on stuff is cheap. I'm not sure why your bodyshop is charging you so much .. mine is getting done this week . I will post pics
