For context I've never had a V8 car or truck, and I've never had a 4wd...but when I reverse somewhere and then stop and shift into D it feels like theres a bit of a shake or sway sort of vibration for a second coming from either the transmission or therabouts. It makes me wait for it to stop before I accellerate as I'm woried it will hurt somehting if I accellerate while its happening. Is this a 350ci V8 just being itself or is it somehting to have a shop look at?

Hard to tell without experiencing what you’re talking about first hand. But it does take a second for the transmission to engage once you’ve placed it in the position you’re going with. Put it in reverse and it takes a few fractions of a second for it to fully engage. Add the two driveshaft and all the joints that go along with it as well as a little slop in the rear end gears, you’re also feeling that driveline slack engage. I always wait for it to feel solid before stepping on the gas.

yeah...thats likely it. it doesnt feel like anything is broken, just not used to such a large transmission having to slowly engage I guess.

It’s a little slow and clunky, but once it’s in gear it’s solid. I did notice it when I first bought the truck. My last two pick up trucks were stick shift. And my last automatic was a short wheelbase V8 SUV.

my last truck was a manual T100 and before that was a 4 cylinder pickup and a 6 cylinder dakota before that...so Ive never had a beatly vehicle like this before. Just getting used to it, glad to know its likely just a big boy truck thing :)
