Hi folks, I have a 2015 CM Limited with 58,000 miles. Some days when it is colder upon starting I sometimes here a squealing noise that sounds like it is coming from the serpentine belt. Once it warms up it goes away usually after 10 min or so. Should I be concerned? I think others have had the idler pulleys replaced but normally not with this few miles. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Lost track after #1.
Bad belt, one of the pulleys going, and/or bad tensioner. Check belt for any fluids on it too while you're there.

I had something similar, that turned out to be the bearings on the hvac blower motor. It is tucked up behind the glove box. It seemed to quiet down after running a few minutes. Mine was replaced under warranty. Hop in the passenger seat when you start it in the morning and see if that’s possibly where the noise is coming from.

Has the truck had any work where the serpentine belt was removed? Because it is possible to route the belt wrong and that will cause a squeal at start up. Only reason I know this because my dealer did it on my truck after a water pump job.

Power stering pump may make noise cause of the cold thick fluid. Mine makes a noise until it warms up.

Had the same problem it whose moister when cold (freezing temp) on the belt system. I would go threw the car wash and only drive 2 miles home I would squeak for a few days after. Now I drive it 20 minutes to dry everything of and haven't had a problem since.

    Thanks all.

No work done on it at all. In the 58K that I have had the truck, I have changed tires and break pads. The strange thing is today is one of the coldest it has been and it starting up with no noise whatsoever. I have the platinum warranty so maybe I will have the dealer check it out next time I am down that way.

I replaced my belt tensioner at 50k on my 2014 due to the squeaking noise. I don’t believe it will leave you stranded..just an annoying sound. If you do decide to replace it, it’s easy. I did mine in about 30 mins and I did not replace the belt..

Bringing this back because I’m getting a bad squeal on my 2017 with 63k. New tensioner on order as it is coming from that side. A little disappointed I couldn’t get 100k miles on the OEM tensioner.

Yeah, wait until you try an aftermarket one! It'll start chirping in under a year...same happened with mine...wasn't worth saving $40 to do it over again...buy an OEM one and knick it out...if these are the worst part of the trucks, I'll take it, albeit, annoying!

I ordered a Dayco which my research tells me is the OEM part. Can you confirm your OEM ones were stamped Dayco?

Dayco sounds right...I'll dig thru my receipts...I can't see any markings as it's on the truck right now though...

I swapped them this morning. Dayco is the OEM part. Unfortunately the squeal persists- sounds like alternator bearings.

I have this. I thought it was P/S pump, belt, tensioner, a/c, etc. Got a mechanics stethoscope and found it's the alternator bearings.

I think I’ve confirmed the noise is coming from the alternator. Picked up a new one from the local dealership this afternoon - $450 after tax. :puke:

Should have it installed later this week. I’ll report back.

Yeah, pricey but the best route vs some junk auto parts option. Please do.

New alternator installed. Thought long and hard before pulling the old one because the pulley spun free and quiet by hand. Quiet as can be now with the new alternator.

Yeeeeehaw! That feels so good! You pretty much have a brand new truck again after all the round things you've replaced! I'm glad it was the culprit and is fixed!

Awesome! Glad you got it fixed. How much if a PITA was swapping it out?

Honestly it was not as bad as the horror stories I’ve read about. Went through the wheel well and had to take the PS pump off to get enough clearance. Definitely seems easier than pulling the fan, fan shroud and sway bar to pull it out the bottom. Roughly 4 hours start to finish.
