    Hello everyone,

I'm new the the forum but excited to be here. I'm 27, married and live in Wisconsin, the land of cheese.

Something about me, I actually don't own a Tundra, yet. I've got a 2006 Toyota Highlander that I bought when I was in college and have been incredibly impressed with the reliability, but I've just reached 204,XXX miles and I'm looking to upgrade. I stumbled on this forum and everyone seems very knowledgeable, so I'd like to ask a few questions about buying as I've never bought a vehicle from a dealership. I'm currently shopping around. Things that are important to me

    CrewMax
TRD-Off Road (if the price is right)
Color is neither here nor there, but I'd prefer it wasn't blue or red
    Gen 4

Because I'm new to the buying process I'm wondering
1.) some good negotiating techniques, I've been in contact with a few dealerships now, all communication through email, and haven't had much luck getting them to lower the price other than a few hundred bucks.
2.) how much wiggle room is in the price?
3.) I just read a thread about 2016 and up Tundras that have a squeaky bed, are there certain years I should watch out for?
4.) Toyota has teased the Gen 5 2021 toyota, if this comes out will there be a drastic price reduction of gen 4? if so any guess at that price? I'm wondering if it is worth waiting for the new 2021 Tundra to come out before buying.

My price range is ~$35k, so new Tundra will probably be a little out of reach.

Good luck on your search! Newest models may be in higher demand and not as much wiggle room.

If you consider an older model, try looking on Vroom.com. I am not affiliated with them, I did buy my truck from them.
They have tons of makes and models, fixed prices, and based out of TX and ship vehicles all over for $499.

    Welcome.
I have luck negotiating by having lots of comparable vehicles. Take the lowest price to the one you want them ask for even more off. I have got 3k off after they priced matched before but have been as low as 1200. you have to willing to walk if you don’t get what you want. You can use Edmunds and Kbb to find a ballpark to make a decent offer. If you see the trade in value was 24k and they are asking 28k you have some room to talk them down. Go the last day of the month if you can. If they have a sales goal they need to hit they will be more likely to deal. If you are paying cash it’s easier. If financing watch out for the gotchas. I walked from a deal a few weeks ago because of a $1200 crap add on fee. Get the deal in writing up front with all taxes and fees then you can dispute stupid stuff they try to sneak in at finance. I usually skip the extended warranty up sell unless I can get them to lower the interest rate. I bought it on my current one because they lowered my rate 2 points. I canceled it 2 weeks later. It comes off the loan and the extra per month I paid for it will eat away at the principle. You can cancel warranties within 60 day with no fees here but it may be different in your state. That may seem dirty but I look at car deals like a war. All’s fair.

Dang thats a good point about the extended warranty, I do not plan on financing through the dealership. I've been pre-approved with a 2.75 interest rate, which in my area has been the lowest I've found. I've also heard the 'wait until the last day of the month', I've been chatting up a few dealerships via email, I've noticed if I ghost them they usually will pick up the conversation again and be willing to go down another $200-$300. My problem is none of the dealerships I'm talking to are in my area, they are all 2-3 hours away.
