    Hello all
I am first time poster and just signed up as a member.
I have a 2010 Tundra Crewmax Platinum. It been a great truck other then a certain leaf spring that keeps braking to which there is no recall.
Today when I was running around town. I had my truck in 4wheel drive and there was a strange noise that was coming from drivers side front wheel. It started off and then escalated to a very loud noise. I almost thought it was a fighter jet flying over top of us ( wife and I). I was doing about 40 mph. When I realized it was actually coming from my truck I quickly took it out of 4H. The noise went away!
It drove perfect. When I got home and in my drive way I put it back into 4wheel drive and no noise worked fine. Although I only went up and down the driveway ( 40feet) but no noise and the front end was working fine.
Any idea what the sound would have been? It was loud and did sound like a fighter jet flying over me at a low altitude. Weird!

I tried it again and it is a clicking noise coming from the front left front end. Any idea what is would be? Is there a video on how to fix it or a schematic on the break down of the front hud for 4x4’s 2010

CV axle. Classic symptoms. Not hard to replace.

Well, I'm not an expert on 2nd gen tundras so maybe someone else can chime in, but in general, you will need a new axle nut and retainer washer but most axles come with one. You will need to disconnect a ball joint or tie-rod end so if you have any doubt about those it would be a good time to replace them. The same goes for front axle seals, a good time to replace them but not required unless you mess them up taking out the axles.

You will need a good sized torque wrench and breaker bar to get the nut off and on again if you don't already have one.

I gotta ask. Why were you in 4WD in town? Please tell me the roads were snow covered.

Running in 4WD on dry roads in town is going to cause a lot of drive line bind. Lots of stress on the CV joints primarily is caused. It's not good for the rest of the 4WD system either.

I was driving in 4wheel drive because we just had 10”plus inches of snow and their slow on toed plowing.

Well, again, I don't have a second gen, but it looks the same in pictures, mine was a 30mm.

It could be, like I said, different model truck. I'd probably wait until I had the new axle and take the nut to your parts store to make sure.

I took my tire off and grabbed the cv axle and tried to shack it around to see play but it was solid like a rock. Starting to wonder if it is the cv axle. Don’t know what else it would be.

Changed the cv axle today and the noise is still there! No as loud but there. What else could it be?
I’ve owned 4x4’s most of my life. Back in the day when you wanted to put it in 4wheel drive you had to get out and turn your hubs, now just turn a dial.
Could it be my left hub is not engaging all the way and if so how do I correct this?

    Forgot to reply back.
Fixed the issue. There was a metal tag on my drive shaft that was loose and hitting my catilac converter. Took the tag off and alll is great!
