Hello everyone, I am the proud owner of a new to me 2008 Tundra 5.7l 4x4 with 145000. Sadly, it is throwing codes P0717 and C1201. It runs and drives great otherwise, but I am constantly alerted to this by the the
    -check engine (solid)
    -traction control (solid)
    -VSC OFF (blinking)
    -4LO (blinking)
dash lights. I also noticed that it doesn't want to shift past 4th gear, as determined by feel and RPMs. If I switch to "sport mode" to upshift, the numbers change on the display but it does not seem to shift gears. Based on the interwebs, I have ordered a transmission input speed sensor, but can not seem to find an easy way to get to it to change it out. I think that it is on the top passenger side face of the bell housing housing but can't seem to actually get to it. Has anyone done this or have any advice on how to best get a look at the sensor and connection? I appreciate any help, thank you.

I appreciate the links, but I've already read them. What I'm hoping for really is for someone to tell me the best angle of approach, so to speak for the sensor itself. I have googled for hours and am at a loss.

Yeah, already tried a reset. Lights came back after about 5-10 miles of driving. Had no trouble getting 5th and 6th gear until I put it back into park, then same issue.

Fixed. It was the turbine input speed sensor, which once found was incredibly easy and quick to replace. One 10mm bolt on the front passenger side of the transmission. Running perfectly now.

Hey no problem at all! I still have the code popping up randomly. Don't even necessarily need a pic, just what the best way to get to the transmission is. Thanks!

As far as this code.. Just popped up on my 2012 Tundra.. I have the extended warranty on the truck and take it in this week.. The only mod I have on it is a BAM 8inch exhaust system.. Is there a correlation between the change of exhaust and Turbine/Input Shaft speed sensor A Circuit (no signal)? I m hoping Toyota covers this claim.. Thanks in advance guys!

Can someone who has been able to locate this sensor please describe the location and/or post a pic? I'm in the same boat, have the part, just can't find the damn thing to replace it.

Can anybody tell me or refer me to a part number or something for the sensor? I keep getting different answers about which sensor it is... One says its a speed sensor for $25, another is $156. When I talked to the parts department at the dealer, they don't know what I'm talking about when I said turbine input shaft speed sensor. Getting really frustrated and just want to know exactly which sensor it is I need to buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Here's the part I bought (AISIN is Toyota's OEM supplier for this part) https://www.ebay.com/itm/284203219904

The input (turbine) speed sensor is the one circled in Red, on the bottom of the torque converter on the front side, easier to get to from passenger side. 10mm bolt and a wire harness is all you have to remove. 2 minute job once you find it.

Are they the same part, or are they 2 totally different sensors? Trying to fit a large hand in there isn't all that easy because of all the other stuff in the way.
The reason I'm asking, I got the sensor and swapped it out but now I'm thinking it may have been the one circled in blue that I changed... I'll have to look at it again when I get home. The check engine light is back and traction control off are still coming on, every time I clear it. Thanks for your help

I had the same code for me last night, followed by P1604.
Went to the dealer Don Velley North Toyota, had to order the parts, 208 + tax.
I found one in Amazon for 21.52. it will come next Tuesday. This afternoon I found it's easy to change it hope the bolt which will be easy to remove.
After install I will clear the code to see it fixed or not.

The parts arrived on Monday, I tried to replace it today while I am off, on the wet snow floor, the place is extremely difficulty to reach there, and cannot see the bolt. I used the multimeter checked the parts resistens reading 465 Om and the new parts read 640.om. I give up to change it, I will see how it developed.
Anyone had a good idea to replaced the parts ? I may try to use a bendable extension to for the next attempt.

I had applied some contact cleaner to it, the check engine light came back today, anyone had done this before I found is not easy to reach the 10mm bolt. Because I can not see it, only by feel. Anyone had this experience?

P0717 Code ! DO NOT BUY THE AMAZHON IN PUT SPEED SENSOR even it's cheap 21 Canadian dollars, END WITH THE WRONG PARTS CAN NOT BE INSTALLED! EVEN IT SAY IT FIT YOUR 2014 TUNDRA .Today in Toronto the weather is very good, I tried to installed the parts which is above the coolant pump ( I guess , I saw two black coolant hose goes there) , the job is not that hard if you don't have a huge hand. I used flexible head rachet 10'mm, and spend some time to clean the bolt, the job was not that hard to do, I use a long screw driver to take out the sensor (a little bite to the transmission body) I had check resistance read 667 om, looks good, compared with Amazon it read 670 om, but Amazon sensor the fastening is a straight line one ,it would not fit , the original Toyota had 45 degree. The hardness connector not long enough to reach there, if you want use this parts you had do cut the connector to extend the wire in this way you can connect, I did not do this way , because I love this truck, I reset the code and drive to Don Valley Toyota , the check engine light went on after 3 KM, I had paid 235.00 for the QEM parts had do wait above a week, I will update what happen after I stalled the new parts.

The beck/arnley on Amazon is correct oem part (denso) and it’s about $40. It is the 90 degree orientation one, for the v8 tranny.

edit: the Toyota version was on back order and nearly $200 a few weeks ago.

I had this same issue pop up a few months ago. Replaced with aisin sensor RST0071 (RST-007-1) from rock auto. Literally the easiest repair job I've ever done. Didn't have to take the skid plate off. It's not easy to see, you'll be doing a bit of the work by feel, but shove your phone up there to assist with spotting the part. Also keep in mind there's a small o-ring on the sensor and it took a bit of force to get out. Bolt was in great shape, backed out very easy even after 7 years of Illinois road salt exposure.

I popped out to the garage to get some pics. See below. Once you locate it, it seemed easiest to get to by going after it almost blind. Under vehicle from passenger side, head just forward of the trans oil pan and you can get an arm up in there and do everything. The harness clip is a push down and pull off. 10mm bolt is on the top of the sensor.

Yes that is right, that is not a hard job, after I tried this afternoon it's a very Doable job . Thank you for the picture. After you send the picture is very easy for anyone new who looking for input sensor, not the output sensor. Last week I could not get much info as today. Now people with no difficult to locate this sensor just view from the picture you send. Very clear. Thank you for your help.
