I told them to torque mine to 97. Watched them hit it with an impact wrench and then break the torquer out. Half of them clicked right off the bat. I went home and fixed it myself.

I never had any issues with Discount Tires! Their service is really quick install 4 tires 35 mins and balance/rotate quick as well always have appointment. I knew the tires I wanted it was btwn Hankook ATM or Wildpeak AT3 went with Hankook since it was cheaper no complains. If anything I would praised them popped a tire on my other car didn't have warranty they sold me warranty certificate for 5 tires which was cheaper than buying 1 new replacement the tire was 7k miles.

This is the exact reason, I will NOT do business with these damn chain stores, they're full of shit on every level. I've been using the same mom and pop tire shop for over 20 years.

Sure, but they say they tq to each manufacturer spec, so I bust out the trusty Toyota manual and show them 97. If it's 97, then it's not 100. Ocd and exact. Gives me a nice warm feeling inside.

Never had a problem with my DT shop till this last install. They scratched up one of my new F5's while mounting it up. They let me know immediately and will be replacing it asap. I was bummed but I know shit happens. They will still get my business in the future. Went with the Nitto RG's for my first gen.

Man, the fact that they told you instead of hoping you wouldn't notice is awesome. So many people have not integrity. Then again, so many people would be d-bags about an accidental scratch, so I can see both sides. And since they will replace it, you can use the other as a spare.

Stand up guys working there, I know shit happens. I actually felt bad for the kid that did it. He was stoked on my wheel setup when he first saw them so I know he felt bad about the mishap. It's all good, they'll make it right. Having a spare will be nice too.

Unfortunately it sounds like you got someone’s opinions instead of facts and for that I am sorry.

    Hello.

You, Sir, sound like a man with a good head on his shoulders.

We do recommend replacing tires at 4/32’s where as any other place will tell you.. “3/32? oh you’re good your still above the legal limit!”
Well, NHTSA did a study that most single car accidents happened when the vehicle had 4/32 tread or less. Wet weather traction takes a nose dive at 4/32. I don’t like to hear that you felt pressured. That certainly isn’t our goal.

Yes, we promote from within. 6 years ago I started making $10.50/ hr and I was worked the hardest. Spent 2 solid years in the shop before being promoted to an assistant manager. And even then I spent 60% of my time in the shop instead of at the counter. That’s how everyone starts.
No one at Discount Tire makes commission.
We simply want each individual to get the best tire for their needs and their budget and feel as safe as possible on the road. If the info suggests you would benefit from the longest lasting Michelin vs the entry level tire, I will recommend the Michelin. If someone can’t afford it, let’s find something in the middle.. “Low Prices, More Choices.”

Integrity is the very first principle we operate on. We do not prey on anyone. If you felt that way I would recommend talking to the store manager.

No internal incentives. No commission. It’s pretty clear the OP got opinions instead of facts.

Thank you for choosing Discount Tire.

Cooper AT3 XLT will be my next tire when my KO2s wear down...
I don't think I've ever bought a Cooper tire in my 40+ years of driving.
But I'm ready and willing to try the AT3 XLT.
For the record, my 275/60/20 KO2s run much better than my OEM 285/55/20 KOs.
But I'm looking forward to them wearing down for replacement....

I had a experience at discount where they were not able to come through on a order for my tires in time. I selected a different one. They put on the tires, but it was not the ones I chose. They made it right. Everyone is human and I will be back. Those guys but their ass day in and day out in that store.

This thread was meant to be comical and that’s it. If I offended anybody I apologize. That was not my intention.

Yes, I am aware that I was being giving nothing but an opinion by an individual that works at discount tire. I think no more or no less about the company.

    With that I’ll pass.

    Have a good weekend guys.

Sales pressure rolls off me like water off a duck, so there's no need to be concerned. Too much enthusiasm, however, can drive some customers away. :D

Some of my neighbors loyal to DT had similar complaints and observations about the new store. It was a new grass-roots store, probably within 50 miles of you. I'm sure they hired locally, and they no doubt got some "experienced" guys that had previously worked at independent tire stores. We've got a couple of old-school tire stores in our town. (Got to ask why they're still not working at those places; it ain't like DT is paying big bucks for continuous back-breaking work!) Last time I was in there, the DT experience was back...new store was providing same great service and value as every DT I've ever visited.

Before DT opened, I had gone into one of those "Uncle Lev" tire stores with a flat lawn mower tire. I didn't expect them to fix it for free like DT, but, boy, did I get a sullen, ration of **** when they found out I only needed a flat fixed. Insult to injury, there was sealant inside the tire. Well, sorry guys, if I don't use sealant, I'll be in here every week with a flat from Mesquite thorns. That was my "I'm NEVER coming back here, even it I have to drive to Bee Cave!" moment.

When I decided to fix this "thorny" issue for good, I purchased new tubes for my mower online. To save others a BF mess, I dismounted the tires myself, cleaned up the wheels and tires (sealant is highly water soluble), installed the tubes, and filled the tubes with sealant. Now, if I have a flat lawn mower tire, you guys can fix it for free without getting yourselves and equipment filthy and sticky. Or, I'll fix it myself...no big deal. :D

I've bought a couple of sets from my local store and that place amazes me. Watching them work through the windows is like an organized chaos haha. This last time I was actually getting some new tires for my trailer that had been sitting for quite a while. Two days after I got them on I noticed one was flat and on the rim. I pulled the tire off and looked, nothing was in it and it had only been pulled about 2 miles. I called them and they said a lot of times when things sit they can get dirt and corrosion on the wheels that keep it from making a good seal on the rim. Took it back and they popped it off, cleaned off all the way around the wheel and remounted it and balanced with no questions asked.

I have been happy with this store so far!

It's unlikely that I will go to anyplace other than Discount Tire for future tire needs. They have the best combination of price and service combined with the lifetime rotation.

Completely agree. I'm rotating every 2,500 with these Nitto RGs so I'm probably saving $300 over the life of the tires with the free rotations.

I agree on the 'mom and pop' store but sometimes they don't carry the tires you want. My family has been going to a really good tire store for decades (Hank's in Woodland Hills CA). Bought all my BFGs, for my 94 Toy truck, the 2002 Tundy, my brother bought his there. Tires for my 2019 (P tires on a truck?? uh, no), I did research. Read everywhere. Even watched YouTube vids. Cooper XLT was the choice. But good ol' Hank's doesn't carry them. So I had to, very worriedly, go to America's Tire and watch them through the glass. The chain stores worry me. But they did OK, balanced well, wearing evenly. Just got 4 tires for the family minivan, back to Hank's for Hankook's. Prefer the locals over the chains but sometimes you gotta go to the chain store. But research first, know what you want, the size you want it in (make sure it fits before you go there) and stick to it. I asked to see the Coopers before they put them on so I could see the 3 peak.
It's possible there is an incentive from a manufacturer or distributor which may color their opinion and what they suggest so it's mostly worthless.

I always buy my tires online, cheaper than any tire store I've walked into and that's without finding a sale somewhere. Then go to the mom and pop place and have them mount and balance.

I went to discount once to have the inner bead on my beadlocks broken (the rest of the wheel was disassembled) and they wouldn't even look at them, haven't gone to a discount tire since.

DT right around the corner from me fixed a tire for me on a Saturday morning when they were busy, didn’t buy the tire there, and they did it for free, which I had no expectation of. They have my business for sure!!

I don’t think anyone was offended. Myself included. I was simply trying to help explain why you might have had the experience that you did and reassure you that that isn’t the norm.

Discount actually does pay pretty well. However starting pay is more at In-N-Out. But I make a decent salary now and I enjoy what I do.
I’m going to guess the issue was either at Buda or Marble falls.
Didn’t know you were that close to me. :p

Seriously, at the store level there are no incentives to sell certain brands vs other. We walk in every day, get an idea for how many tires we might sell and how many customers we might see. Then we open, check you in for service and get you taken care of. We want transparency throughout the entire experience.
Sure, I’d rather have higher gross sales than my counterparts by selling better tires. But, we are made to operate with the highest level of integrity and if the person in front of me can’t afford the Michelin’s I will show them their next best and more affordable options.

That’s what I like to hear. Thanks for your business!

In the last 3 years i took 5 of my cars to DT for new tires.2 cars had rims scratched while mounting. Was never notified had to discover myself .
IMHO they have 16-17 year olds working there that should not be near expensive rims.
My last trip there was to put on new rims and RG’s and my wheel still shakes on the highway after 3 trips to rebalance/road force balance.Im wondering if i should try Les Schwab to take care of it

If a salesman's mouth is moving, he's lying. (My own cynical opinion).

At 49 I’ve come to realize a few things, it always hit or miss when it comes to retail, and it never hurts to ask.

I’m waiting to run out the stock tires since I commute in my truck, but I’m sure to upgrade when the time comes, lord knows I’ve already sunk enough lol.

Anyways my last time we got new shoes on the wife’s Lexus they broke the sensor on one wheel. Took two weeks to order in a “OEM” go back they install, yellow light gone. A few weeks later we noticed the heads up display was no longer reporting individual pressures. Sigh.. I do some reading, I should be able to “Initialize” the ecu with tech stream, a needed step when replacing. I was unsuccessful and it was reporting the old number along with a the new.

5000 mile rotation comes do, back to discount. I tell them about it and ask them if they could get a reading from all 4 so I can compare numbers with tech stream, they said no problem, they didn’t offer to fix, but in fairness I did not ask at the time, I was confident I could fix it before them...

I was wrong :( and I was right they couldn’t fix it.

Service comes up at Lexus, I tell the kid what’s up, he says no problem we will “initialize” for free. They come back and say, it didn’t work and the valve stem didn’t look OEM (it was black). They said $230 bucks they could fix it with a new sensor. 30 minutes later it’s fixed and ready.

Stop off at Discount explain my story. He immediately says we will make this right. It was almost a year since we had bought the tires. Couldn’t refund, could go claims but that could take long time and possibly reject. I told him honestly I’ll be shopping soon enough for the truck, we talked more and I got this...
Meh it’s in writing and I’ll expect at least 300 credit.
