    Hi everyone,
I just purchased a 2020 TRDPro MGM Crewmax Tundra. Pretty annoyed it doesn't have an electronic tailgate lock already installed, but I discovered it is a $169 option on Toyota's website.(only shows for 2020, not 2019). Had I known about before I bought the truck I would've negotiated it into my deal..apparently it is brand-new and no one at the dealer even knew about it. Anyway I asked the dealer to install it for me 2 days after I bought the truck, and they told me it would cost $488...told them to fuck off....pretty shitty customer service seeing how I just bought a $55k truck practically at MSRP.

My question for you guys is: has anyone here installed one of these? Seen one? Have experience with it? Is it just a "pop&lock," being marked up by Toyota?

I wanted to try to keep the truck fairly factory with OEM parts as much as possible, it's only 5 days old.

Anyway, loving the truck other than that and learning a lot from browsing around on here

    Thanks for any help

I bought the oem power lock tailgate. Haven't installed it. It's sitting in my garage. Probably gonna install it once it warms up, but I can't see it taking more than 3 hours. The dealer can go to hell for $500 lol.

Enjoy the loud 'clunk' when locking it everytime. I absolutely hate that shit, so annoying. Buddy's f150 is perfectly silent

I installed it on my 18 and my door locks are louder than the tailgate lock. To me it’s actually pretty quiet.

I did the DIY tailgate lock. Spent $22 and 2 hours of time installing, tinkering/customizing, drinking to install it.

The sound doesn’t bother me at all, all it says is it’s locked when I walk away without having to look back.

Mine was a port installed option from Toyota, maybe they have updated it. I can hear the damn thing from well over 100' away

Just installed mine yesterday. Took an hour or so. It’s a very nice kit (shielding, connectors, instructions) and a very simple install. It’s very quiet, the door locks are louder than this. I’d highly recommend it

Hot damn you guys are awesome, just ordered one on Amazon from a Toyota dealer! $166

I swear I was Google/youtube searching for an hour and couldn't find any info on the OEM model, everything was just pop&lock. Having that part number moon puppy linked was huge help!

I installed mine last month. Agree that it’s a simple install. Just requires you getting underneath the truck to run the wires. I am extremely happy with it, and it’s not loud at all.

Just a little update for those interested:
The kit is complete plug and play no splicing wires, comes with everything you need right down to zipties and tape! All the harness have sheathing protection on them. Step by step instructions with pictures for every step of the way. Couldnt be an easier. Well worth the extra $50-60 over the pop&lock

I've had mine sitting in the garage for about a month now. Think I'm finally gonna suck it up and this weekend an install it. I just know it's gonna be a messy job for me because of my undercoating.

Totally agree it’s worth the extra cost. Super easy, quality parts and everything you need. Including about 100 zip ties

I just picked up the OEM part from my dealer. It is a nice kit, but does NOT have instructions for install, only instructions for how to use the key fob. Price was same as Amazon and delivery was overnight.

Mine had printed instructions in the box. Both the kit for my Tacoma and the one for the tundra.

Ordered one of these today for my truck. Looking at it I can see how it should be quieter than the ops lock option. Looks like it fits better.

I had this option installed at a dealership a few months ago. I was on vacation and found myself locking and unlocking the tailgate with the key 10 times a day to protect my fishing poles and tackle. I went to a local dealership and ordered it. When it came time to install they apologized and said it was 5 hours labor. I said no, I'd do it myself. We negotiated and agreed on 2 hours labor. I believe the instructions say 2 hours. I love this mod!!!! Lock the doors and the whole truck is protected! (I have a hard cover) I don't find it to be loud. It has a different sound than the doors but I believe that is because of the lack of sound deadening. I'm not sure, that's my guess. This is now a mandatory factory option for me. I never cared before. This is the first truck I've ever had a tounnue cover on.

Just ordered the lock from @Roman and threw in a TRD radiator cap also. When I am camping or on the road I have to constantly lock and unlock the tailgate, this is gonna be nice.

I installed mine today. Took me 1 hour and 30 min, and a good chunk of that time was re reading the instructions because I was paying more attention to the podcast I had playing than to reading.

The instructions posted here on the forum are incredibly clear. The parts you get from Toyota are well labeled. Yes it is louder than the other doors when it locks, but I wouldn't even be mentioning that if others hadn't. The only advice I have is to do it when engine is cooled, as you will be running wiring near your exhaust, and it's nice not to have to be careful about a burn. Money well spent.

I bought "pop&lock" and installed by myself. It is only $100 included tax and shipping on Amazon. Work perfectly.
