Texas does the same.....with many, 100% of the the yearly registration fees are waived. Registration on my wifes car, with my Purple Heart Plates, costs $3/yr, while my registration on the Tundra with DFC plates is free.

I have the designation on my license but refuse to do any type of military plate on my vehicles. This is just my .02 and not trying to say anything negative about the idea. The reason I won’t is because nothing pisses me off more then when somebody does some stupid shit in traffic and I see that branch plate. I know I am not perfect and have tried to beat a slower driver at a light or been somewhere new and not realized a lane ends etc. and had to do something not right. The last thing I want someone to think is “ look at this asshole Marine”. So I just rock a plate that donated a portion of the sales to a cause. Here in Oregon I used Crater Lake plates for ever. Now have the PNW Wonderland ones.

There s a lot going on with drivers liscenses now a days. The technology is pretty awesome. With holographic layers and patterns in images, it s not hard to spot a fake now a days. I m not crazy about the implications of the real id act, and chose to opt out. I never fly, so no worries about being tracked by the govt.

I have it on my Lic. it actually got me out of a speeding ticket that I fully deserved. Cop took my stuff and then before he got to his car he returned and handed me my things and told me to slow down and have a good day. I had to ask him what was going on and he simply told me he did not ticket veterans.

I don't do the plates for the same reason I don't do stickers of any kind.

Props for not using to your advantage and props to the LEO for not ticketing to you...even though you deserved it and letting you know why.

I think it s nice that no matter what vehicle I own I will always have the same liscence plate number because vet plate number is for life. Of course it gets noticed, but it s no big deal, and it s nice having the vet plate when I park at Home Depot:thumbsup:

Thanks... Veterans in California have some additional steps and a fee (Go figure).

In Texas if you have a service connected disability rating of 60% or more, you can also get Disabled Veteran plates, which are cheaper to register.
